I know that Wilf, as i said, i do agree with him  I think the wording/tone of his 1st post was a bit sharp, but when he realised how/what had happened he rectified that and explained in a better way. I actually like and respect the bloke because of his posts on this thread. Computers are crap for explaining things, tones of voice, emotions etc are not conveyed and can be distorted.

If the dog had been lost, it would have made no difference, it would still have been the unfortunate accident it was. You will just have to believe me when i say in 14mths of doing the same walk there has never been any fox activity to see, i dont have earth dogs, nor do i actively choose to hunt and kill fox, so i would never take the dogs out collared. It would be like taking the dogs collared to the local park!

Wilf...Millet started to have a cold sweat after lying there with his arm deep in the tree when he realised later what was in it

You lads are slow, ive only had one joke via Pm about Millet and his chopper :D

Good stuff Moll... an opportunity taken full advantage of

Leaving cubs is fine in theory if thats your bag (IMHO if an opportunity to take them out presents itself take it BEFORE they make a nusance of themselves ;) ) but in practice and under those circumstances i think you did a great job.

Glad the dogs all came away well... no doubt your quick thinking saved one of them getting a face full from a pissed & protective Vixen. :victory:

the odd fox about the lambing feild isnt nessecerly a bad thing.

WTF? who told you that my money's on the League against cruel sports!

leveller,

there is a school of though that a resident fox , be it round a lambing feild or a pheasent shoot, can sometimes be a good thing. a bad fox is a bad thing granted, but a "home" fox can have its benifits. they will clean up after birth and keep the area free of mess and potential desise etc and keep troublesome foxes away, in the smae way a fox on a shoot that is not a pain(one that dosent jump in pens and kill the lot B) ), will clean up pricked or missed birds. i makes sense really mate. its more about knowing your local residents and keeping the good ones. you will never kill all foxes so there will always be one to take its place, be it a good one or a bad one. it has also been suggested to me that a fox about a lambing feild will make ewes better protective mothers, in the same way when lambing out side if the bond is broken from a bad birth, a collie is often walked through the feild to kick the motherly instinct in.

it is also a mith that all foxes will take lambs, granted they are oppertunists, and most will take the odd weak ones, but through experinece of many lambing call outs, most that are hunted away from lambing feilds and dispacted tend to be powerful dog foxes, not vixens with cubs ;)

i hope that clears up my post for you, wether you accept it or not, so please in future do not assoctate me with the f*****g LACS, you are very wrong

cheers wink ;)

Who would have thought an innocent thread would cause such a kerfuffle...........As socks said, killing is killing, I don't like killing young animals but I am expected to shoot pigeons in the summer, rats all year and I am trying to take lamb killing foxes from another farm, they may be vixens, does with young or pigeons with scwabs...I don't know but if I don't go the farmers will call somebody else and I may aswell take up golf..............
