is it just my kids or are they all like this these days. my kids come in from school walk straight into the room and either start texting on their mobile's, or go upstairs and straight on the computers on facebook or whatever. my lad will also sit on his XBOX 24/7 if I let him.

today was unbelevable. My daughter has had a pet hamster for a good 3 years which finally today popped its clogs, when I looked at it this morning it looked pretty ill so I spent hours warming it through and doing everything to save it thinking how much it would upset her. she finally came in from school so I sat her down to tell her, she came out with "Mums already told me" and sat on her phone texting again without the slightest bit of interest, needless to say I'm pretty annoyed by her reaction.

Is it just my kids or is this the way they are these days?

Tony, it winds me upto f**k how most kids just waste there life in front of a games console, as kids we used to be out ALL the time..........

your right mate but we were allowed to do stuff, like going egging, climbing fecking pylons for a kessies egg :icon_eek: i spent half my childhood up a tree and when old mills and factories closed down, they didnt surround em wi harris fencing and put a guard wi a dog on,they were left for us kids to feck about playing army in until they decided what they were going to do wi it,we used to camp out for the whole 6wk holdays, only going home at teatime for summat eat and every sunday night for a bath(an only cos mi mam made mi),we also used to pedal to southport from leigh :icon_eek: age 12, kids cant do feck all today, probably why so many of em sit on their xbox's

Leigh. Is that part of Wigan.

certainly is mate

You dont know how much fun I am going to have at work tomorrow! One of my mates comes from Leigh, and he hates Wiganer's. We rib him relentlessly about Leigh being part of Wigan, which he Feckin hates. He is adamant Wigan has FA to do with Leigh and never will do!! Thanks for the reply :toast:

tell your leyther mate,he's in denial, leigh is in the borough of wigan, tell him the only difference between both towns is that leighs rugby team is shite :toast::thumbs:

Kids of today eh!   I always make sure that they read to me at least 2 chapters a day when they are with me, and I make all their home work fun so they do actually do it.   No tv in their rooms, a

I think its a lot of kids these days..........they've got this "throw it away" attitude.   Its all to do with this never ending culture of companies like nokia, sony ericcson,playstation,x-box etc br

My three are 7 and 6 now. They'd sit on the pc/DS or in front of the tv for hours. If I let them. Which I don't. Homework when we get in, then either play out or read or whatever. Some days they can h

my kids only get the tele/dvd/wii/ds as a treat, they get roughly an hour a day an that after they have done there chores, ie the kennels...

by the way they are 5 an 4

Not bad mate!

Mine are 16 and 11 (tomorrow!) and I limit them to a couple of hours a day telly/screen based activity.

Read, walk dogs, homework, outdoor activities need to be done!!

My daughter is 6, she has a DS which she got for christmas, i wont allow her to have a tv in her room, she isnt allowed on my laptop but i will admit she watches too much telly, only this week though she asked if she could 'play out' on her bike, i live in a small village, at the front of the house is a road with a pavement and large verge, down the side is a road but it is a no thorough road although can be busy, I wasnt sure what to do really, i did allow her, set the rules out straight, made her repeat the rules back to me lol and when she went out i watched her over the hedge, i felt sick, it isnt her i worry about, it is the society we live in :cray: My dad lives in a farmhouse, when we go there all the kids are out all day, making dens, climbing haybales, riding round and round the farm yard, walking the dogs up the fields, perfect setting for kids! but i have to allow her some freedom however much it terrifies me!! she has loved being able to ride her bike up and down the pavement (bless her!) time to think about moving further out into the sticks i think

Reading through the posts I think I allow my kids far too much free Gadget time, they come in and start texting or emailing straight away, its also the first thing they do when they get up. I even called my lads bedroom "The Crypt" because he never moves from it except to eat and drink :whistling:.

I would now go as far as to say they are addicted, the problem is as my missus said what else are they supposed to do? I live slap bang in the middle of nowhwere completely away from civilisation. this time of the year ther kids carn't go in the woods due to the Pheasants and pretty much have nowt to do, even their friends from school don't come round that often because they all sit about bored.

Having said that It would be nice if they would talk to us more often, I only get spoken to when they answer me and thats about it........

We try to all sit down together and watch a film as a family at least once a week, we find it helps. Wish I hadn't bothered last night - Batman & Robin.. :( What a pile of shite, worst superhero film I've ever watched!

Going to watch Batman Begins next time..

Both of my kids do well at school so are rewarded for it with their games consoles and the other things they find of interest. The eldest needs telling twice by his Mom sometimes but that's teenage kids for you. The eldest goes to power league of a Friday and loves graffiti art and will sit for ages designing different pieces, he's found an interest in playing the guitar so we're looking into getting him some guitar lessons sorted. Both read, the youngest mucks in and cleans out the Ferret and feeds it, he goes to Cubs, He does after school sports of a Monday, and also play's footy of a Saturday morning. He's also said he wants to start gymnastics but with his Diabetes I'm not sure whether any clubs will take him on?

If either of them play up though, then I make sure they're punished for it and I make sure they understand they can't take the piss. The last time I had to ground my eldest son, I took all of his games and films away from him, stopped him from seeing his friends and I gave him Now that's what I call Terrier work and Scooby to read, until I thought he had learned his lesson.

As for playing out, I'd love it for them to get out a bit more. You know it's all good and well them playing out but there isn't anything for the kids to do around here, The police come knocking your door these days if the kids play football in the street. If they go over the park they bump into thieving little scumbags smoking weed and such like.

PS. As I'm typing this, My eldest is sat here helping his younger brother with his Maths homework :good: .
