Cabinet Placement and fitting

Recommended Posts

Iv sent my app off for my FAC and Shotgun so i fitted my cabinet to the wall this evening, Its in the garage, The garage door has 2 dead bolts on it and there is no windows for anyone to look in, iv put it on the wall with Expanding bolts, Big ones, The problem is the wall is uneven so there is a gap on one side, Im going to fill it with cork so its not as obvious. Also there is a concrete step on that wall so iv had to put it off the ground abit. The reason iv put it in the garage is its the only room in the house that the Kids cant get in. Its attached to the house and iv put it on the load bearing wall

My question is do you think that will be enough to please. Iv tried to shift it and it wont budge.

I was going to bolt the ammo safe ontop of the cabinet. And i suppose i could suround it in wood if that would help.

What do you reckon?

Does it have a standard garage door? If so you'll need some kind of reinforced locking mechanism on it to keep them happy. As it's attached to the house it shouldn't be a complete no-no, but you will definitely need to make sure the big outside door is secured to the same standard as a decent front door.

If the garage is as secure as the rest of the house then it should be fine. They don't like outhouses, but the garage is linked to the house so he should be ok. I know at least one person in D&C's area who has their safe in the garage, albeit they have a proper old safe rather than a cabinet, must weigh about a tonne!

hi mate if it of the floor you will have to move it as it renders its self able to be jacked up using the floor as a jacking point, if your garage is seperate from your home it will have to be moved, standard garage door out of the question tried it had to move it, as said before keep the keys out of childrens and any body elses reach then no problems.

Cant you fit it inside an internal cupboard in the house or something? Then fit a deadlock to the cupboard to stop prying eyes. Doesnt matter if the kids know where it is or not, as they wont have keys to the cabinet. I knew from the age of 5 where my dad kept his gun cabinet and I never went anywhere near it.

Personally I wouldnt want mine in my garage, ive enough tools in there that it would be like an aladins cave for any theives. Im sure they could probably cut their way into it within minutes.

Got my Fac ok with the cabinet in my attatched garage allbeit in a separate cupboard(ex coalhouse) at the back of garage. The officer noted that the garage was well used, more like a utility room really. Extra security on main garage door was well received. The system works well as I'm straight in from hunting/shooting club, stuff stored, wellies off, no mess, everybody happy. Best of luck.

hi i live in stockport cheshire so comes under gmp my guns are in my garage which is 6ft from house and has two windows both upc and a up and over garage door it was protected by normal cheapo garage door lock and an independant alarm system the cabinet is bolted to wall( within a timber purpose made wooden surround to disguise it from what is inside ) with expanding rawlbolts that ran down the center in a row fao came out asked me to put a ralwbolt in each corner and a dead lock to the bottom l/h/s and r/h/s of garage door and he then passed it.told him the reason for being in garage and not house is the same as you to keep it away from prying eyes and the kids so i suppose it does depend on area and fao best advice i can give is talk to the fao they are human and they love it if you pick their brains and ask advice thats what they are there for . oh i nearly forgot ammo is in seperate digital safe bought from b+q again hidden behind another cabinet to disguise it.so go for it and have the answers ready for him
