patterdalejoel 669
best ferreting shovel? what are in your mind good features, important features or vital features? any links or pics? thanks Quote Link to post
tegater 789
I use a Bulldog round mouth spade, with boot lips, but that suits me for what I need. It really is each to there own, the type of soil etc. A wide spade. for example may not be as useful if digging amongst tree roots etc. Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
I use the Draper Fibreglass Shafted Round Point Blade Mini Shovel ... Its 73cm... now.. before you think "well you will be bent over alot".. to start with im no 6ft guy,, nor is my dad.. also.. i find it easier to dig carefully on my knees (especially at the moment since im injoured)... its great on all terrain.. ive got farms with really soft soil to reallly rocky underground.. even bits of slate under ground.. and its going great.. its great for a big dig and digging up large amounts and when you get close to where you are its very easy to control how much you take out... the only problem is its not great for scooping out the soil and once your 3ft down it gets awkward... however i have started digging slightly wider holes to compensate and now having very little trouble. its very light too, which is another bonus for me due to having Chostrochrondritus (sp?)... which is a condition that means my cartlidge basicly shreds... i have it in my chest so carrying a bulky shovel around for instance on my 780 acre farm.. would just be more work than i need... i like to make life easy if its possible Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
I used to swear by a graft, but they're to heavy to amble round with, spent half my time with it above my head like a spear trying to avoid hooking it on brambles Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
'Col_c88' timestamp='1316630733' post='2253004'] This is the one i use.. sorry for posting again just figured picture would describe it better than i did Thats the one my son uses he likes it but the blades a bit soft and the silver thing between the shaft and the head is already loose after one seasons use Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
Ive had no problem with it and been using it a bit over a year... though to be fair ive not had to dig much until recently.. but for £9-£14 cant complain ... ill be getting another if it breaks just because of its conveniance tbh ive never noticed the blade being soft.. like i say ive dug through very rocky terrain with ease... we'll see how it does over this winter Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Same as many above, i like a short, round headed shovel, with a decent shaft and comfortable grip, got a couple from tool station or screw fix for a couple of quid each. Long shovels are no good for getting in under hedges etc. But if going to land that needs it, a long bladed post shovel goes in the car. 1 Quote Link to post
