Have to agree Topper, maybe a mod can close it?

perhaps if a mod not desperate for an argument has the patience to read through some of the utter drivel posted, then we may get a result.

chief; i own and have worked for her entire life a now retired jrt. she dug a maximum of 10 times, but for the same reason as dawn and the fact that she was a rescue with a huge prey drive and no sense could not dig to her. however, i did keep her and worked her in exactly the same way dawn has with her border? does this make me a non worker? should i have given her the bullet?

if i had done this, my boxer, who i had to take on for reasons out of my control would not have been able to work. should i have given him the bullet because he is not a tradition working breed and is not as good as a decent lurcher? at present they are in my opinion a fair working team. granted, they could never be as good as worker bred dogs, but i believe in giving my dogs the best life possible and working them to the full.

i am not remotely interested in showing my dogs, but do not condemn it. as long as the dog works as it best can i am happy.

Dawn. b; i get the same shite that you receive for owning a border, for owning a golden retriever from the shooting circles. i work my retriever who is now over one, and the gamekeeper at my shoot has told me more than once;

"son, if i hadnt of seen it with my own two eyes, id never have beleived a goldie could work like that. especially as shes better than the majority of labs and spaniels here."

i will not charge for the pups if, in years to come, her being as good a worker as she is decide to breed from her, but will give them to people who will work them, love them and care for them as much as is possible.

why is it such a sin to be slightly out of the ordinary? also, my gundog is harder than a lab, has a better nose than most, is faster than most and is as loyal and loving as one could hope for in a dog.

rant over, but dawn, keep on keeping on, the ignorant and narrow minded will learn ;)

Talked to a few people, not directly linked to this topic, about what type or stamp of dogs they keep and the only thing that is clear is we all have a preference for one type or other. Very few people will keep several different stamps of dog, wether they be white, red or black and any other colour size and shape in between.

The, " I only keep workers and aren't bothered what they look like " statement, simply isn't true, if these folk are honest, it does matter, and in fact it matters a lot. ;)
