Squirrel trap

Recommended Posts

I want to trap squirrels which live in the top of a chimney stack, which is blocked off. The squirrels have access via the two way cowling.

There were six, four young and two adult.

They come down the roof and along the top of the fence then hop onto a branch of the Walnut tree in the garden.

I trapped two young ones in 8 hours using a cage trap which was strapped to this first branch. But the others avoided the cage for two days so I put it on the ground by the trunk, with no success after a day.

So I have to compete with the Walnuts for the best food. the cage is baited with peanuts in on a thread above the pan, and I added some Nutella.

I am thinking of buying a Kania to strap to the tree.

Do you have to pre-bait or not?

Not sure if I can rig up a pole and some snares as per a post on here suggested, possibly from the fence to the tree?

Not sure where you get the wire for the snares from?

Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Can't shoot them as the garden is too small. School nearby.

I think I have educated the ones left.

Left the cage trap on the ground for a week and caught nothing.

Mind you if I were a squirrel I would choose Walnuts over peanuts anyday.

Rigged up a pole with 4 snares on it and nothing after 2 days.

Made a see saw trap and left that for two days without luck.

Looks like a Kania may be the answer, if I had one.

I caught a lactating female in a body grip baited with large hazelnuts, hopefully the mother of the others I am after. I also re-baited the cage trap with some sweet chestnuts and put it on the ground instead of the top of the fence.

So snares did not work, peanuts caught two initially and peanut butter sandwich did not work either.

Nuts to the lot of them.

Topic has been suggested but are not easy to find.
