SLiP tHe DoG ! 129
Has anyone got a dog that will 'NOT' run on certain ground ? i have an 18 month old bitch here shes had quite a few rabbits and a couple of faster ones so far.... im asking this because she decides not to run on fields with banks , humps , bumps etc ... now ive only just realised this as ive been lamping the same fields since she started (flat) she decided the other night to fk about and put no effort in at all after she missed a couple and she also had a couple of crashes on the last few runs not judging the drop in the bank and just came back to me even though the rabbit was still on the lamp ....... but when on flat ground she seemed to want it more obviously i know they can lose confidence when not catching but i dont think that was the reason . the thought of her only being comfortable on flat open fields or familiar ground never entered my head .... anyway on the way back i decided to give her 1 more run on a flat open field which she has ferreted on in the past ... anyway she was excellent only got 3 runs and she took all of them ran like fk looked very smart on her turns etc. im asking this because its got me stressed slightly especially when we are going to go and do a few new fields or when i get asked to go away to somewhere with lots of different ground .... i cant take her and its a shame she has alot of potential with her speed and strength im not new to the game , done alot with the dogs and know a fair bit from what ive picked up on from the older fellas and i will learn from mistakes but this is a new one for me anybody else ? iceman001979 1,316
Did she hurt her self or knock the wind out herself in the bumpy fields by any chance Quote Link to post
SLiP tHe DoG ! 129
No mate she was fine tbh she never had a bad fall that night she was following the rabbits right up to the fence line then coming back . so im pretty sure it isnt anything to do with vision or an injury . but it is very confusing and ive never known a dog point blank refuse to put effort in on certain fields ... P.S i forgot to add she is very different during her heats and she came out a few weeks ago it was her second one , during the heat she would not chase the ball or bring it back she wont play with the other dog either she hasnt really been the same since (before this heat she was doing very well) so its either something to do with that or its the awkward ground :sorry: Edited September 19, 2011 by SLiP tHe DoG ! Guest Josy
It sounds like a problem that wont get better, to me it sounds if its lack of prey drive or half hearted what ever you want to call it. In my experience picking and choosing runs usually only gets worse. Quote Link to post

6pack 60
Possibly just a confidence issue? Could try building it up, playing on similar ground, maybe with another dog to run with. Fun practice. Quote Link to post
SLiP tHe DoG ! 129
Possibly but she runs like an experienced dog on the right fields The difference in her from the rough to the flat is very confusing Quote Link to post
chartpolski 24,051
It's a difficult one, mate; but I couldn't have any confidence in a dog that picks and chooses what and where it runs..... Hope it gets over it. Cheers. Quote Link to post
