oakey 57
Last season was a absolute wash out due to mixy ,plenty of rabbits about just before then with about a week or so to go mixy struck to such a point that some of the storage sheds at work stank with dead rabbits underneath them . But the numbers picked up to a good amount but when at work on Saturday i noticed a rabbit sat in the field looking as though its got mixy . Going to take my lamp to work today to have a shine round to see what numbers there are there . This cant happen again surely . If it dose i might think about packing up ferreting altogether . Ive been thinking as to why this has happened the only thing i can think that at this time of year young bucks may get displaced and migrate to other warrens (bit like watership down) and spread mixy as they go, anyone else have any ideas ? Keeping my fingers crossed . Quote Link to post
rob190364 2,594
I barely saw any rabbits with mixi all summer and in the last 2 or 3 weeks I've seen quite a few. I've just been getting the dog out as much as possible to catch as many as we can to get them out of the way. One of them we caught was alive with fleas! All you can do is catch as many as possible and get them out of the system to reduce spread, can't think of anything else you could do really. Quote Link to post

rob190364 2,594
If anyone's ever had a flea infestation you'll know how quickly the f'ckin things spread, my cat brought some in the house years ago....dog and other cat had them in no time and I was bitten to buggery. Got rid of them off the animals with frontline (that stuff is brilliant!) but the next day I went to Sainsburys and was stood at the conveyor belt and just as I'm about to get served by the fittest checkout person in there (coincidentely I always seem to end up at a tidy birds checkout!) a flea jumped off me and landed on one of my items......shitting myself at the checkout would have been less humiliating!!!!! Took me ages to get rid of them out of the house and I had wooden floors, wasn't even carpets for them to get into! Anyway, I digress. Lets just keep our fingers crossed for an early frost!
