Theres no black and white answer for this. The more you dilute the lakey blood the less chance there is of pups coming out with lakey features. i know of a 2nd gen patt lakey that looks like a pure patt.

I remember reading up about Australia's 'lost generation' when the white aussies were trying to breed out the native aboriginies and the belief was that after 8 generations the aboriginal blood would be so diluted that all of that 8th generation would appear white aussie with no aboriginal features. Perhaps the same for the breeding of dogs?

If you continuously go back to the patterdale side, pretty quickly you will have pups that show only patterdale. BUT as someone said there is lakey in the makeup of the patterdale so on occasion you may have a lakey colored pup show up. It really depends on which dogs you select to breed to and what recessive genes they are carrying.

What does it matter if they work well enough. If the pup turns out good enough to breed you will probably always have an occasional blackntan or red lakie type pup in mostly black litters.

like i said if the dog worth breeding off it would,nt matter what breed i but her with aslong he a worker ,the question was,nt aimed at for the breeding purrposes it was more of knowledge of genectics if it could bred out of dogs, thanks for the replys lads

If continuously bred back to patts the subsequent generations would be like this (P being patts, and L being lakies)

1st gen is 1/2P, 1/2L or 50%P, 50%L

2nd gen is 3/4P, 1/4L or 75%P, 25%L

3rd gen is 7/8P, 1/8L or 87.5%P, 12.5%L

4th gen is 15/16P, 1/16L or 93.75%P, 6.25%L

5th gen is 31/32P, 1/32L or 96.875%P, 3.125%L

6th gen is 63/64P, 1/64L or 98.4375%P, 1.5625%L

6th gen 63/64P, 1/64L etc etc

thanks for that i get the drift ,so the sire was 1/2 pat 1/2 laky and dam pure pat so that will make my pup 3/4 pat 1/4 laky is that right

Is there such thing as a "PURE" pat?

I understand what your getting at tho. But Pure breeds are for show men.

The "pure" pats that you are planning to breed to in order to breed the lakie out will more than likely bull, border or lakie in their makeup. Good luck with your breeding plan mate but don't get hung up on the pure thing, put work at the top of the list and use the best dogs available to you

ITS NOT A BREEDING PLAN ,I WAS JUST INTRESTED IN THE GENETICS SIDE OF THINGS ,IF I WAS 2 BREED OF HER IT WOULD BE ON WORK NOT BREED AND IT COULD BE A BITZA ASLONG IT DONE THE JOB
