B.A. 2
Hi would it be possible for me to introduce my 5 year old terrier to my ferrets with it eventually not trying to kill them and if so how should i go about it Quote Link to post
vduben 55
slowly and cautiously, leave the cage where the dog can see the ferrets, if he goes to bite them through the mesh, tell him off....just for starters Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
My patterdale is 2.5-3yr old and had no problem breaking him to the ferrets. I suggest doing it in the garden or somewhere known to him as theres less distractions and things to get him excited. Let him see the ferrets, sniff at them etc through a cage or whatever youve got first, I had my ferrets in the run and once my dog started to just lay down and look calm often I got them out for him to have a look at, made sure he stayed sitting and calm, if I even saw a hint of excitment I nudged him away until he calmed down..Didnt take long at all and he now treats the ferrets like he treat the puppys at my parents house., he licks there feet for some reason too. Of course, it always helps if hes fairly obediant to start with. anyways yea,, im gonna say that you will get alot of people saying hes too old for a terrier, i got told that often but a couple of lads gave me tips and now hes part of my hunting good luck mate! d luck Quote Link to post
