midland gamefair tragic!

Recommended Posts

Game fairs are no longer the same. And they will not change back to how they were, no matter how much we get our knickers in a twist about it.

As more and more people move into the country from cities and towns the real country folk are being outnumbered, hence shows being filled with country wannabe's they get themselves a lurcher a lab a springer, walk around in their hunter wellies and ghillies to 'look the part'. The days of (The large) country shows being for hunting/farming folk mainly have long since gone, and are now organised by big money making companies rather than the local folk, so working dogs shows will be filled with pet dogs. I personally think the only time the actual hunter outweighs the pet dogs is at the hunt shows organised by the local fox hunts, as it would be abhorrent for them to support a blood thirsty sport!

Hit the nail on the head there moll!

The thing i can't stand is when you get the pet owner saying there work their dog's, why lie!!

and to the op who asked who's to blame , well no one, as i'm sure the owner never set out to hurt his dog and i'm sure the men running the lure never set out to hurt any dog, Hopfully they will stop using the metal posts, but even then dog's get hurt and die, i lost my bitch last week at a place she go's 4 times a day every day and she broke her neck, dogs can and will get hurt and die any time any where! noone like to see it to any dog but you've got to deal with it and not look to blame anyone"!

"Lurcher Racing" used to be a bit of fun; I've raced a rough coated 23" bitch against a 30" Deer/Grey in the past, and had a good craic about it afterwards ! But now it seems so competiteve; Greyhound

like to see injured dogs do you ...tossa!!!

bag chasers or not these events always draw a decent crowd of on lookers at game fairs which in my books makes good publicity for the lurcher game .. as for using the steel bars and rope its way out o

so you say the people who walk around with high boots and tweed jackets on then drive x reg transit vans with with lurcher dogs runin on the side is a face of modern day lurcher work, well you as thick as simonman, sorry but true, atb

thats the way it looks to the public .. only 1 club i know that promotes lurcher work at game fairs and shows -- the first reply you put up to this thread in my book makes you a tosser ..

Not too sure thats the case the folks that go to these shows already have a fair idea about lurchers and to me promoting lurchers at a show full of like minded folks defeats the object as it stands the general public see lurcher men as mob handed chavs getting caught by the plods helicopter ragging f**k out of a billy with half a dozen bull x cause thats what they show on wildlife sos they are the folks as need educating and sure as f**k you wont never see them at game fairs.

All that said what folks choose to do with their own dogs is their business and non of mine so good luck to them and wish the dog a speedy recovery.

been involved in the hunting game three decades first year i showed a lurcher since 93 , as ive never bred for looks or racing ,lurcher shows out side of the hunt shows are a far cry from working lurchers and eighty percent have never walked the walk when it was legal so what chance when its not , not saw agood set up for running a race yet years ago a proper fox tail a rabbit skin now plastic bags what to promote how silly a lurcher is to chase a tesco bag best show i saw this year been to a few, was morpeth at least the dogs worked that got into the smooths , and the judge new that , came second ahah ,everybody to there own best raceing i saw was newmarket coursing club stat was there lal hardy etc 3oo yard plus a fresh skin now that was a test got second with an old collie type lurcher , it was good crack , a lurcher was bred to run more than 80 yrds maybe 2oo 300 0r more would be a decnt test or 600 if you have the space ,to me these shows are a crack abit bartering but never to be taken serous full stop winters for that , lurcher shows dont promote lurchers apart from there good nature ,what promotes lurchers is maybe like hunting nites vids dvds coursing days, lamping etc ,a lurcher is first and foremost a working animal who kills live game to fed family pest control , not show dog bag chaser etc

the dog that was injured belongs to a mate of mine it was stiched sedated and sorted within a few minutes of it happening the owner is a working dog man and i run with him twice a week in the winter. his kennel setup is something else and has to be seen to be believed.. and beleive me he is no showman but a real working dog lad. not that theres anything wrong with people who like showing and racing their dogs .if i had a choice of someone owning one of my dogs who showed and raced and looked after their dogs or someone who ran the nuts of it and didnt look after it there would be no question who it would go to .

well i have to say with us all bitching about each other as to wether we work the dogs show the dogs or race the dogs we really dont need outside enemys to finish our sport ...i work my dogs show and race them and run and organise races all over. one of which is the Heart of Wales and most people who have been there will tell you we always make the dogs safety priority our race track is sectioned off by the thick orange fencing to keep people and other dogs from running across the track and to keep any dogs from running into the public we do NOT use metal poles i would have thought anyone who had run dogs of any kind at any time would have enough sense to realise accidents happen so making things as safe as possible is the only way to cut down on that also if i may add we do not have a plastic bag on the lure its always rabbit or fox ,,,as for those people who hate people chasing a lure thats their oppinion and their entitled to it but dont forget those who do enjoy a day out at the show or racing their dogs are entitled to their oppionions too and its doesnt mean that that person has never worked a dog in the field most lure racing in the summer is done for fun and to keep your dog fit ready for the upcoming season ,,,i was very sad to here about tha dog being injured at the midlands and wish it a speedy recovery ,,,and good hunting to all this season
