earth84 2
it really all depends on several factors mate... every terrier is different, and every handler/owner has their own expectations of what a brood worthy terriers should display before they breed.. some say 3 seasons, some 4, and some will breed the first heat (obvious wankers or peddlers).. but what if the terrier took so much stick in the first season it had to be retired due to the damage it recieved...get my point mate?? it all boils down to this question, "has my terrier shown its true worth, and am I satisfied with it's perfomance enough to breed?". because in the end mate, thats all that matters, the fact that you are satisfied or happy with its perfomance or the terrier suits your needs. who cares what other knobs think if I am happy with what i am kenneling or feeding. hope this helps 1 Quote Link to post
digger. 615
i have already bred one of my bitches she is a patxbull but i bred her because i might not get to breed her after the season because of the way she works if u get me. will keep 1 of her pups back .but on the terrier side of tings i will need more little grafters the way tings are going they have proven ok so far but will they do it true the season and will i have to go another season before they are proven for a litter.has anyone bred after the first season and the pups a success. earth84 2
ihas anyone bred after the first season and the pups a success. my mate has. he bred with intention that the bitch didn't work out he would just plug her and the whole litter. I personally want to see some worth first, but remember mate not all the pups in the litter will fill your expectations as I feel there is bad in every litters mate, thats why I feel they should be proven first, whos to say that you didnt breed the only bad one in the litter. just a waste of time as you will find not as many make the grade as some want you to believe Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
Digger if you can get your bitch to come in around april, may, then the resulting pups will be at a right age for starting the following season. As regards what age to breed a bitch from,i would like to have at least 2 if not 3 good hard seasons over her 1st,and also the dog i would intend to put across her would also have to be well and truly proven.Sometimes it wont work out that way,ie bitch so hard might not last a 1st season let alone 3 so then its up to the individual if he thinks she is worth taking a litter from,in a case like that i would see what the rest of her litter mates are doing or is she the only one works in that way. That is jmo and its really up to yourself, what you think is right thing to do,anyway good luck.
