Advice / experience

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've currently got a whipxgrey bitch that's four years old which gets on brilliantly with two other separate border terrier bitches and I'm planning on also getting a pat terrier bitch puppy myself that I've viewed.

I'm looking for some advice and of any experience youve had really as to keeping two bitches living together. What I've read is that this paired sex (2females) are most likely to fight given the chance as the pup matures..!

I plan on spaying both together as soon as poss which can help as i don't plan to breed either. Can anyone tell me of their experiences of housing two bitches together wether good or bad. The terreir has nuttall breeding and my concern being I don't want to come home one day in the future to a dead whip x, my dad had a mastiff and a mungrel both bitches that got along fine but neither were working dogs and neither had the gameness this terrier will bring.!

All replies wil be appreciated.!

Looking like some mixed views here. The advice given on sites about introducing a second dog into the home is that it's best for the dogs to be of a good age gap with three years being minimum.. I think we'l all agree that when the pat matures shes likely to be the boss (after me!!) over the whipx

I've got an 11 month old patt bitch and a 2 1/2 year old russell bitch that are kenneled together 24/7 and have had no problems so far. My patt is the dominant one already but my russell has just seemed to accept that but always be ready and able to separate them if anything happens!

I also have a whippet dog kenneled with them during the daytime and the only time there are any problems is when the whippet gets a bit horny and gets an ear full....I'm sure we can all can sympathise

I have 8 bitches of varying ages 2 of them pups, they all live together as a pack and occasionally have a set to over the pecking order, its never nasty just a warning. I think its how you handle them that makes them what they are. If they dont get enough exercise or stimulation i could imagine you would have problems. Mine are hard work walking, training and stimulating them. In fact it is a full time job but we do have peace and harmony. .

same thing happend with me, as the younger bitch got older she would try and dominate the older bitch which lead to a scrap and by the time they were seperated they were both half dead.

A disaster just waiting to happen imo, what happens if they kick of at night or when there is nobody about, and 90% of the time thats when it happens and they all turn on 1.

Wise man once said to me, kennel a lurcher and a terrier together and come home to a dead terrier one day. Or maybe in your case dead lurcher, given the breedings. Terriers are wind up merchants and one day a fight WILL kick off. Not worth it for the cost and time it will take to knock up another run, imo.
