Quick question on magnification

Recommended Posts

I use a Falcon Menace FFP 4- 14 x 44, And it doesn't change my POI whatever mag i use, It can be 10x 12x 14 x or 8x as the Reticle Increases or Decrease's with the Chosen Magnification.

But i Tend now to stick to 12x, As its also ideal for HFT, And all my Zero aim points stay the same through out the Mag range.   .

This is interesting Daz buddy,

So am i right it thinking that you are saying with your scope you can zero at 35 yards say on x 14 mag and then shoot at a target at 50 yards which is say 2 mildots hold over .177 and then change to night time shooting on x4 mag and still have to give 2 mildots hold over at 50 yards? This i find very hard to comprend.

Or are you getting confused with zero aim points in regards to mag change and range differance aim points in regards to mag change here which are 2 different things altogether buddy.

Hi Bankzi,

No buddy you are still not quite grasping the concept correctly. I can understand why.

Look at this that ive done for you.

All these profiles are created from a 25 metres zero with 2 being shot at 30 metre targets which is only 5 metres more than zero (simular ranges as you put it).

You will see a zero range of 25 metres on x5 and x10 mag with no cahnge of the POI like i said earlier.

You will then see a change only 5 metres from zero on x5 mag and then x10 mag.

You will see that 30 metres on x5 requires 3/4 of a equal spacing hold over (suppost to be a standard 30/30 ret like yours).

Then you will see on x10 at 30 metres you need to hold over 1 3/4.

If you then try and hold over 3/4 on x10 mag you will miss very low or wound.

Hope this helps buddy.

ATB

Si

Not Confused Si,

The First Focal Plane on my falcon allows Me to do this Bud, The only problem is as you go lower down the Mag range the Reticle goes smaller, Larger as you go up the Mag range,

But if you can see the milldots it stays Constant so no matter the Mag the Milldots remain the same as what you zero at,.

Hi Daz,

Sounds cool mate.

Ive never heard of this type of thing before on a scope and yours is the first ive come across so im very interested in learning more.

The Pro hunter ret does not do this and neither does the hawke ones i use or have used.

On x4 can you see your mildots ok then.

You must have to only make small corrections for elevation even on x14 mag if its the same as being on x4 mag .

This type of ret is what Matt was talking about isnt it?

Can i do a test on your scope the next time i see you buddy. Its given me a idea about something that i may be able to have built?

Yes Si your correct,

only make small corrections, And at Present i think the Falcon FFP is one of the only First focal plane on the Market for it's Price,

And no Problem Si about testing it when i see you next Bud.
