markha 99
I once landed a 19lb Pike with an orange fibreglass 9ft skinny spinning rod with a cheap Shakespear reel loaded with 15lb mono line, after using a tiny little silver spoon with red spots on it, lets just say it was a good fight, that took no more than 6 minutes, and the Pike was netted and weighed in a sling and transfered back to the lake as quick as I could. Thankfully it survived, as Pike are pretty sensitive fish when it comes to the stress of a fight and then being handled out of the water. More important is the lbs rating of the rod, not its casting weight, when people start talking about casting weights I normally assume that they are talking about sea fishing rods??? As coarse fishing rods are measured in the strenght of the tip section, Like my old carp rods, one was a 2.5lbs test curve and the other was a 3.5lbs test curve. My old Harrison Barbel rod was a bit softer at 1.75 lbs, lovely rod it was. If you were to use a very stiff rod for coarse fishing of lower weighted fish you stand the chance of causing the fish a lot of damage as you would effectively be bullying it, also a higher chance of pulling so hard, with no give, could see the hooks pulled, which is just not cricket when it comes to a beautifull fish like the Pike. You can bully all the carp in the world and add some more scars to that greedy fishes lips and it will keep on going; do that to a Pike and its going to die. Quote Link to post

markha 99
I just offered my thoughts, and sorry it came across as sucking eggs and all that, 1st time I have ever visited this section, so just posted an answer, if I had bothered to check your past posts I guess I would have answered differently, sorry for that. Just use your 2.75lbs rod mate you wont go wrong, I used to stalk the margins but found that chucking that spinner right out to the middle and then sink draw would eventually pull a big one in, always used to work at Bluebell Lakes. Have fun and sorry for my initial reply. Mark Quote Link to post
