Hybrid Vigour - info and examples!

Seeing as lurchers are basically a cross of breeds, from my understanding hybrid vigour must play a good part in the making of good dogs aswell as worker to worker breedings ?

 

Anyone know any more on the subject or have any examples of dogs past and present ?

im sure i read on here, that in dogs there is no such thing as hybid vigour, as they are the same species,

whearas a hybrid is a x of 2 species.......

 

cannae remember who wrote it now off the top of me head, but im sure it was somebody sensible

hybrid vigour only acures in a genuine first cross!!.. if atall as all dogs are genius canine stricktly speaking................ if dog is bred to dog there is no hybid!!

so what about a dingo x dog they must be a hybrid and they are not infertile as most hybrids are

Technically its not but in a practical sense it is the same thing as hybrid vigour.

 

I was talking to a man that kept very good bulls in the late 80s and he was saying that when they cross 2 lines of bull, he used the example of tomstone x bolio (think it was that but I'm not a bull man ), that you get the same sort of thing as hybrid vigour but within a breed.

Yeah you are right.

Most of the inter species matings are not possible, those matings often dont have hybrid vigour.

 

A dingo is a subspecies and of some people even this is doubtful.

So it is no problem to mate dingo x dog. And yes you would have hybrid vigour.

The mixing of breeds that have positives that can help balance the negatives is a good way of creating a stronger dog. If you were to breed dogs that have common problems like bad hips then you would be missing out on the possitive aspect of breeding different breeds together. Of course if you use healthy dogs both with possitive aspects like bull x grey then you should get a dog that is healtier than breeding to a dog that carries the same negative traits.
