it takes a decent terrier and some hard graft to work a charlie and dig to your dog working his quarry.anybody can lift a rifle and shoot him in front of a lamp.

I agree,but the question was which is the more efficent way of fox control and it is in some form the gun,let it be rifle or foxs pushed out to waiting shotguns.I have absolutly no interest in shooting fox even though i have both rifle and shotguns,would rather see 1 dug or taken by a good lurcher than see 100 shot,not sport imo,just fox control.

Some interesting claims. It seems some people assume shooting Foxes only started after the ban on hunting with dogs. Foxes were shot with rifles and shotguns (and snared, gassed, trapped etc) long before the ban.

Also, assuming all rifle shooters sit in jeeps just waiting for all the Foxes in the area to wander past and sacrifice themselves is way wide of the mark, and shows the blinkered views of some. Many rifle shooters (myself included) walk miles at night in all weathers, over ground that no vehicle can travel, carrying rifle, lamp, battery etc. I often used to do this after a full day following hounds, and/or working terriers too. I've also been outwitted by a Fox on many occassions (anyone who says they haven't, must either be lying or very lucky).

Lots of people have experience of many if not all Fox control methods.

 

The OP was a simple question of opinions, which we're all entitled to, but IMO the thing we shouldn't forget is that, to the antis out there, all forms of fox control are hunting, and they would like to see them stopped completely, so that the cuddly little Foxes can happily carry on eating their staple diet of worms and berries, and at the same time regulating there own numbers.

 

My point is that all of us who take part in fieldsports would be better supporting rather than knocking our fellow hunters, regardless of their chosen method.

Anyone trying to stop our sport will find it much harder if we're all stood shoulder to shoulder in unity, rather than in little groups slagging the others chosen sport as being wrong.

You're wrong there! I bet there's a lot of rifle lads besides me who enjoy other forms of Foxing too.

IMO it's every man to his chosen sport, and we should all be supportive of each other as long as everything's done right.

After all, the antis and the ill informed spout enough shit and lies about all forms of hunting, without any of us having a go.

Good points there that will unfortunately fall on deaf ears for some.....some folk are just pig ignorant in there views.......

all im reading is cull cull cull..... jaysus there will be no foxes left at this rate...already seeing a massive decline in my area because of trigger happy rifle men sitting in camo gear in a warm jeep smoking roll ups and drinking red bull...... hunting to me aint all egotistical killing... these rifle men wouldnt know how to hunt a terrier let alone get out of there warm jeeps even to lift the cat size cubs that they have just blasted and drove on...... yes granted in chicken areas or estates or shoots most have to be culled even when they are dug but for me if i just out trying burrows and drop on 1 then he will 100% be let go to run on ...at the end of the day my buzz always has and always will be breaking through to any mans terrier and the wee dog in full flight work mode.....not see eyes pull the trigger and drive on......mustnt be getting any of the wives when they always out lamping foxes way rifles tut tut ...... each to there own stop.end

shooting can get big numbers. but you cant shoot in a lot of area's . and conditions. i have no respect for any shooter that has no dog. guns/ rifles go hand in hand with dogs. ive seen and done both in fair numbers. and one without the other dos'nt feel right to me.

I agree fully, we shouldn't give them more ammo. I feel strongly that instead of followers of one branch of fieldsports slagging off anothers methods as being wrong, or unsporting, we'd all be better supporting each other.

the bfss used to do a fair bit i did`nt know it was finished -- the mrs is on a basc course in a few week shooting and fly fishing for beginers ...

do some great courses deer etc but wont stand up for any thing hunting not there bag , what i all ways have beef with who gave them marford mill and who dumped wagbi into second place
