Lab 10,979
Shooting is the obvious winner. It can be done day and night with rifle or shotgun. Foxes are quite the creature of habit so once you know where they are heading then its just a matter of waiting. I would have said a really good form of controlling numbers was terrier work before i came on this site and realised half of you let them go.....and yes i understand fully your reasons for doing that before any bitching starts.. Snaring is a very effective method also... Quote Link to post
Night Hunter 109
I use my foxpro to call them in to the rifle day and night ,this accounts for a few of the lamp shy ones too .....only because you dont have to excersise and feed a rifle every day as you do a dog ,but as has been said before there are more than one effective way to control foxes and we should be using all the tools in the box, ocasionally I get some lads with terriers to work the dens to a shotgun and I have also used hounds or terriers to work cover to standing shotguns. Nice to see a good lurcher on fox, especially after a terrier has bolted it,but i could not give a fcuk if they get away from the lurcher,at least ive seen a bit of sport, not like shooting them, its all over in a flash. But in cases where they are causeing harm they have to be culled. gonedigging 9
dnt stand up for the rifle plz lads. them boys coulcnt give 2 fucks for us lot. good gun pack nd terriers for me everytime good fun Quote Link to post
keep digging 35
Ive seen fox shot on the lamp an allthough it was necesesary it didnt hold the same excitement as seeing a lurcher taking a fox! seeing a lurcher youve brought on an put time into take a fox makes it all worth while its great sport. Im not knocking lads that shoot as they say each to their own' but i think that watching a terrier bolting a fox onto a good pack of hounds and hearing them in full cry beats it all for me Quote Link to post
digger. 615
dogs win this one for me.if its hounds taking them out of cover then shooting ok but has to be dogs involved better sport. Quote Link to post
