Not looking to stir up a hornets nest Scent but surely everyone who knows anything about running dogs knows that the lads dog has had to work to an extermely high standard to amass those? Why does it

seen sum 1 had caught 19 hares with to pups on the huntinglife so as the wind was up last night i thought i wud give gaffer a lamp i managed to get 15 flushes to the gun with gaffer managing to shoot

Lepus is a lot more than that and then some

lets not bring your big name causeing dogs in scent ,,lets keep it to mix bred lurcher,, i will stand by this dog on day time hares, and not a betting ,,,but will on the day,,,, iff you av or your mates have one more than willing to have a run, this his not my dog, so no reason to stand up for it....,andy your right,, you have some ////////// what do shag all in this game,, but their brilliant at doing nothing.....

No matter what your feelings on the subject, if that lads dog had caught them (instead of the lad shooting them) then that dog would have done very, very well indeed and I would be the first to say thats a top night and some good work for your dog.

I must echo your sentiments WILF, although lamping hares is not for me, its a very big haul for any dog especially if the dog ran them on big flat fields.

I would be lucky to run that many all season local to me before the ban.

Not looking to stir up a hornets nest Scent but surely everyone who knows anything about running dogs knows that the lads dog has had to work to an extermely high standard to amass those? Why does it always resort to daytime v night time? Christ everyone knows that you ain't gonna catch that many in the day but you could say the same about ANY quarry? If it's not your cup of tea then why not just ignore the topic? I just feel there is so much anymosity on these forums towards certain types of hunting? At the end of the day the lad was out in not the greatest of conditions (full moon) so plenty light enough and his dog Gaffer retrieved a fantastic haul..give credit where credits due, there is way to many talkers and not enough doers on here (not stating you as i hear on the doggy grapevine that you do your share) but no wonder we here in the UK are in the shit we are regarding hunting..talk about unity...most wouldn't know the meaning of the word!!! How old is this dog?.......if its a young dog then in my mind, there are no "rules"............if its an adult dog, you still cant knock the bloke for going out and putting that amount of graft in front of the dog.

And I am sure that if he is willing to work the dog hard (as it seems he is) then he would have little problem trying it daytime as well, we all know that you wont catch as many but its not about that is it?.......its about finding as much work for your dog as you can throw at it.

Obviously, this was just a shooting trip so its all in theory anyway

i bet you have more success on the lamp,we have a fox drive once a week can be out for the day,see say 2 or 3 foxes, after alot of mooching, beating etc yet pull up on that same farm after midnight and flick your lamp on 9 times out of ten youll be on straight away

Very true, it was like daylight at midnight and stuff was very thin on the ground........dont know what it was like where this lad was, but it was very hard going local to me.

nope we kill more in the day because the foxes where we hunt are lamped to death pal so we account for more when hunting cover .Anyway fair play the lad got plenty of graft for his dog i suppose ,horses for courses and all that .Best of luk with the rest of the season
