cull or keep?????

Recommended Posts

i know its gonna upset a few folk, but it is a serious question...

we all know ye only get out what ye put in when it comes to pups, but most also know, that not everydog is gonna make the grade...

so what happens next????

do you cull/rrehome or keep what ye got an make the most of it??????

dont care how ye cull, or who ye rehome to, not what im asking....

be honest, have you got jackers in yer kennel, are you happy with them??? or have you replaced a jacker with a dog that gives its best..

hi ya depend what you call jack ?? what tackle you hunting for them to jack em on an yes my dogs have jacked at some point there living things not machines no i havent culled i have never culled any d

How many of the folks on here that wont cull have bred from there dogs that they know have jacked ran half hearted and failed ? and did ye sell the pups ? how many of ye were completly honest with the

A lot of problems are caused by folk buying in adult dogs and hoping that it will turn out a good one. Then there are the folk who get a pup and are in too much of a hurry to run different game. Eve

if it had any sort off use ect a fox dog that jacked ect but was good on rabbit might be worth keeping or giving away as a rabbit dog if it was no good for anything it would be in a land fill . You can feed a good dog as well as a bad one and lots off people don't have the room for a lot off hounds its a hard life but thats the way the cookie crumbles its better than parceling it off on some one else and them finding out its doesn't do what you told them it would do . And they abuse the poor dog

I can honestly say with lurchers i have been fortunate and not had a dog spew, when it was legal all my dogs were capable of killing foxes on a regular basis over time. Being completely honest IF one had spewed i would probably have kept it for edible quarry, i wouldn't cull or give away as my dogs are more than machines, they are family pets too, how do i explain to the kids i took old "spot" who we have had for 6 years and shot him..............

The big issue for me is when folk pass spewers around and the welfare of the dog is affected, or lies are told or animals like this are bred from.........

I could easily cull the f****r I've got here now if it wasn't for the fact that he's lived in the house all his life and the kids see him as a pet. It's a mistake I'm not likely to repeat, as my current financial situation means I can't afford to keep another one..

As the old saying goes, it costs as much to feed a bad one as a good one..:thumbs:

Very good question dotty, myself i've been lucky only had the one. My first dog was no good using her nose on the lamp, i lost her about ten times one season, had to phone dog warden etc a few times to get her back broke my heart the little fuker lol well in the end she did it day time there was nothing i could do to get her back so i left her there anoth was anoth, dont worrie i seen her a few years later with a guy in the village.next to where i lost her taking.her for a walk as a pet lol. But now i'd cull no messing after working my heartbreak dog for 10yrs i aint got patience for half hearters.

jackers come in all shapes a forms imo

rabbits dogs that run half hearted/stand an watch the bunny maybe for a second or 2 picking its runs we call it

hare dogs i have seen some do the same thing jog towards the hare for 1st 20 yds then just stop an watch it run away

i have seen deer dogs run beside deer for a full field, waiting an hoping for a fence lol

fox dogs that spit oot the fox when the going gets tuff, or maybe awready a wee bit sore....

they come in all shapes an sizes an in most discipines i have seen lurchers worked to...

all the big game i seen hunted was preban, before somebody has a heart attack ffs

Got to admit, i do have quite high morals in that area. If i make the decision of buying/rescuing a dog, i see it as my responsibility to keep it until nature takes it course. If it doesn't make a worker thats tough luck on my behalf, the bond i have with my dog is more important. Luckily, i must have really low standards as i have always managed to find a use in every dog ive owned. All had there strengths and weaknesses.

I think dog law with regard to ownership is weak and as such is abused.

exactly the reason why my lot dont get involved with the dogs iv had over the years, nothing worse than telling them the cute puppy bought home a couple years ago got to go(pts)because the old man says it aint good enough same as an adult of 5 years breaking its neck running one night just means im the only one that has to deal with it and if that saves all the heart ache for the kids and missus then so be it,as for keeping a dog that just not going to make the grade whats the point only ever going to kid yourself it may come good, cull it if you not in a position to find pet home and move on unfortunately not being harsh just a reality check

what can i say i have fast pulling dogs that are really cowards that will give 100 percent when running doubled but dont when run singly yes they are jackers but have there purpose an i have other dogs that will tackle almost anything yet are stock broken an reasonably obedient till there on quarry lol it all depends what you hunted pre ban now were only allowed rabbits though ive seen plenty a half hearted rabbit dogs mainly brainy collie breds also seen collie xs that were demons on fox an wouldnt give an inch an never jacked in my company theres jackers in all breeds an xs a suppose its horses for courses gotta do your home work really before commiting yourself to a dog see who`s got what an who`s breeding what an who`s testing there dogs an try buy from best but even then you can still end up with shite some people can have the best prospects an turn em into shite other people can get the best out of the worst possible mongrels its the person behind the dog as much as the dog itself in my opinion
