Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Russ. Working on scope hieght of 1.750 using high mounts, your best zero would be around the 33yd mark given your stats. Set mag on 11x your PBR will be 10.5 to 37.6 on a Map 6 ret. Top of post should be about 55yds ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Dont worry about scope height, its has little effect on line of sight vs trajectory at airgun ranges, unless that is your scope is 5" above the barrel, then it may be worth factoring that in. Another way of doing things:Zero at 25m, then let me/forum members know what scope and reticle you are using. The reason for this is that with a bit of tweaking its very simple to have a 25m zero and then at say 6x magnification on your scope, each mildot would give you holdovers in 10m increments. And, providing you have a high enough magnification scope, it may be that at say 12x magnification that every mildot gives holdover in 5m increments. Just another way of looking at things? especially if you use a range finder, just point and get range then wind zoom in ot out etc and use the relevant holdover. So the benefits are that with a 1" kill zone you can use the center cross hairs for prettty much 5m to 30ishm then use holdover for longer ranges, simples 1 Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Mark. Youd be supprised how much difference the scope hieght makes mate, even on air rifles. The rifle is a .177 buddy Bill. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Shj bloody hell, scrap all I have posted as its relevant to .22 trajectory, should have read it again, doh, must stop scimming over contect. work must be rubbing off, need a holiday. Scope height, yea perhaps not a clear posting, should have put the words 'average of 1.5 to 1.8" as there isnt a ,lot in it for the average scope mount heights unless your using a 20mm objective or a huge 70mm objective scope. Cheers for making me read it again Bill Quote Link to post
tonyponty 6
how do you measure scope hight is from barrel to top of scope or just the mountings thx tony Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
how do you measure scope hight is from barrel to top of scope or just the mountings thx tony It's the distance between the centre line of the barrel and the centre line of the scope, Tony. Quote Link to post
GoldenGoose13 0
I've got an AA S410 running at 11.6ft lb and also use 8.44 aa field pellets. I've got a scope with 50mm objective lense on 1 inch mounts and I zero it at 40 yards. This allows me to shoot anything between 10 and 50 yards with accuracy enough to drop a rabbit with a head shot. I've not bothered shooting beyond 50 yards. never had the need. Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Thats not the best set up for your combo Golden buddy. You have a broken point blank range which isnt a good thing unless you are dead sure of your hold under at the broken points. Even if i was dead sure in the day I wouldnt suggest using this set up at night as your on a dead cert to miss over the top on a lot of shots that you would bag with a solid point blank range set at 1 inch. Your point black range at the moment is 8.2 - 18.9 yards and the broken till its correct again at 34.2 - 43.9. This gives you a 15 yard error range where you are actually out your PBR by 3/4 of an inch. If you would like to improve this then i suggest the following set up: Zero - 36 yards Kill zone - 1 inch PBR - 8.9 to 41.1 yards which means you are only 1.25 cm above your scopes line of sight at the highest point along your trajectory but still within your kill zone. What this means is that you will be able to basicially aim on your cross hair from 9 to 41 yards and as long as you do your bit with the wind would get a humane kill. Really usefull at night. ATB Si.
