andyp 9
My mate Mally offered to take me out for my 1st ever Goose shoot today, i arrived at his house just before 5.30am, we had a quick cuppa and set off, we arrived at about 6.10am just as it started to get light, we could hear the geese calling in the distance and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. We saw the 1st skein appear out of the gloom but they were to far away for us, so he made the decision to move nearer the flight line, as we approached the corner of the field we noticed 4 nice Grey lags sat in the middle, they were to far away to shoot but they made excellent decoys, so we got into position in the undergrowth and waited. He started calling the geese that we could hear in the distance and within twenty seconds they appeared out of the early light, 6 of them flying low over the tree tops and heading straight for us, OMG what a sight, i was mesmerised by the sight and sound, we had allready decided that he would take the right side, and i would shoot the left if the oppertunity presented itself. Within 3 seconds they had cleared the field and were 30-40yds in front when he said "Now", we both stood up and it must have sounded like armageddon, i concentrated on the 2nd bird left of the leader, swung through and pulled the trigger, but Missed in front, , I quickly realigned on the trailing bird, swung through, fired, and it folded beautifully, as i was watching this one drop, and hit the ground with a loud thud i had a grin from ear to ear according to Mally, then as i looked around i realised that Mally had dropped 2 of them stone dead, Top Man. Then the adrenaline rush that suddenly hit me was unreal, i couldn't stop shaking, and was sweating like a fat bird in Gregs, I couldn't even roll a fag. We quickly retrieved the birds and just as we finished doing that another group of 3 came over, Bang - Bang, I lined up on the left bird, got it 1st time, dead in the air, then i heard Mally's shot, we had got one each . These were once again quickly retrieved, and within 3-4 mins another skein appeared heading straight towards us, once again i managed to miss with my 1st shot but folded it nicely with the second, Mally had also got himself another. I managed to drop 3 Geese with 5 shots, and to say I was over the Moon was an understatement, I have classed it as a Red letter day for me, and it's a days shooting i will never forget. SO a big Thank you to Mally, you are a top Geezer, and a good mate.

SO a big Thank you to Mally, you are a top Geezer, and a good mate. It was a good morning mate, especally seeing your face when you got your first goose. It was great to repay the favour you did for me in feeding and cleaning out my ferrets when i was in hospital and for helping me out on the shoot. Think you'll agree we could have shot dozens the way they were coming, at the end of the day though you still have to carry them off the field and shoot what you need is my way
