What 4x4

Recommended Posts

Hi Lads & Lasses, I posted this in the 4x4 section but didnt get many replies: I'm looking to buy a 4 wheel drive for the coming season, I'm looking for advice & opinions on whats best, I'm not mechanically minded and I've never owned a 4x4 before, I've got budget of £2000.00 to spend and would appreciate any advice, I would be using it for lamping, carrying my lurcher & guns in it as well.

I kind of like the look of the commercial Isuzi Troopers, but like I said I'm not mechanically minded so i'm looking for advice from someone with exprience, I've heard that the Landrover Discoveries are prone to rust alot but like I said Im not sure.

I run a 51 plate Trooper SWB commercial set up just for the dogs and shooting, I had a few problems at first but that was down to neglect by a previous lying owner !. Its a 3 litre diesel and is not too bad on fuel, runs great on the road and superb off but I do have large off road tyres and wheels fitted. Parts can be a bit pricey but not too bad if you trawl the web...well worth considering.

Further to my last I only gave 1500 quid for it...but have spent a lot on it which was my choice.

I was hoping to get something that was ready to go, if I was handy enough with the mechanics side of things I would of done the same but its expensive paying someone else to do it lol

What exactly do you want from the motor? What sort of off roading will it have to handle? Will it be used solely as a dog wagon and not everyday/work motor?

This might help folks narrow it down for you.

A scooby will be f**k all good for you if the terrain your covering is a bit intense, deep mud, steep inclines etc but would be spot on for your average flatland farms.

Alot of choice with the twin cab pick ups but I think the Hilux is generally considered the most reliable and the L200 is cheap for a reason (although there are good ones).

A Disco is the daddy for off roading in your price range but have their problems.

Another to consider would be a Trooper.

Just a few that come to mind....
