im looking to get a new 4x4 for this season as im using a suzuki at the moment but its to small and its a soft top so when you open the back door you need to take out the back window to fit in a travel box which is a real pain im thinking about getting a toyota surf, mitsubishi challenger or nissan x trail or the pick up. i need a 4x4 to fit a dog maybe 2, a travel box possibley 2 travel boxs next year, ferret box, digging equipment as i have to carry more than just a spade to dig because of the wiltshire caulk hills makes hard digging. Would just like to know your thoughts on these and/or what you are driving thanks for reading

got a Rav4 (5 door) recently, can't say what it's like in't snow etc but should be ok, as for space there's a good bit of room in't back, cheap to buy compared to most 4x4's but depends what u wanna spend! the surfs are supposed to be good mate!

If you are not bothered about MPG i think a older Mitsubishi Pajero will take some beating for comfort and off roading ..i had a short wheel base one many moon's ago and it was a cracking tool..the space in the back was rubbish so i took the back seat's out to compensate for this..

thanks everyone i have narrowed my search down to a few cars now if i go for a cheap 4x4 as a 2nd car then im looking at one of the imports perjero or surf. Ive seen a SWB land Cruiser i quiet like but will have to take back seats out. but i made the mistake of looking at a nissan dealer garage and took a pathfinder for a test drive and was well impressed so now thinking of getting rid of the audi a4 and getting a pathfinder as a dual purpose car kicks the arse out of any other 4x4 ive had or looked at, its chain driven, 7 seats but the back 5 seats fold totally flat, brilliant mpg, loads of extras, very good off road, quality drive and looks good i couldnt find anything i didnt like about it and the wife liked it to :whistling: which always helps hahaha. if anyone has one please let me know what you think please cherrs

cracking motor, expencive, but if your doing away with the audi then get one, the pathfinder is a awsome motor, and ideal as a everyday car aswell, and if the wife likes, then get it bought, :whistling: asap, before she changes her mind, the paj, short wheel base 2,8 manual is perfect for the job but does eat the fuel, ive had one and it was expence for a everyday car, the landrover 90 ive got is perfect for me, as its ideal for the bird, and also i take my son greenlaning so good for that aswell, the mpg is a lot better, atb, in finding the right vehicle mate,

After the bottom end went on my 04 navara and the bad response from the nissan dealer's i would never have a nissan vehicle every again...but saying that my brother did have a pathfinder about 2yr's ago and it was a awsome motor..good on the fuel electric everything and really comfortable on the road..it was not too clever off road though but then again it only had road tyre's on it..i dont think you would be disappointed if you got one..

Well I have had mine for near on 5 years now without any problems whatsoever! its now done 117,000 and sweet as a nut. seems funny as I thought the Navara's had the same engine in them as the pathfinders yet they never went pop :hmm:.

I have heard of a few go bang but also of a good few thats done over 200,000 and still sweet as a nut, and plenty more with no problems, mind you heard of plenty of other makes blowing their lid too. so on that note my next motor will 100% be another Navara :toast:......
