i start mine off a 6 months old just on small sets where i know theres a rabbit at home and gradually work them up to bigger set as they get older

Aye same. Although i don't expect much until the next season, and often leave them until feb time, so maybe 9/10 month before giving them a run out.

Is there any harm in taking them out sooner? My two hobs are coming up 4 1/2 months and are a fair size.

skeletally at 18weeks(as your hobs are) they are fully grown NOT mature yet, take them out too soon and being inexperienced bumping into a backed up rabbit kicking out at them MIGHT either put them off going back down a warren or really gee them up into having a go at the rabbit.

In the wild stoats,weasels and even euro polecats would be on their own fending for themselves at this age
