I had a near pure collie as a kid and in the pic with this post he was getting on a bit, but he taught me all the basics of owning a hunting dog,he was exactly the same speed as a hare and never caugh

aye but just think if you could of got him obsessed with rabbits instead of sticks, mine had the same obsession to begin with untill she learnt what a rabbit in her mouth was like.

5 or 6 squaters the rest ran this was one of his best nights 22 in all on one 10ah battery he was catching 3 or 4 day time rabbits a day for years befor i took him lamping he know the land we run very well

Brilliant. lovely to see non-typical dogs doing the business and being well thought of. My mate had a collie type that was a great all rounder with endless stamina, she would ferret, lamp, work alongside terriers and was mustard ratting, although from memory her insistence on retrieving the rats to hand was a bit comical...

A friend off mine's father used to be the shepard in the Pentland hills and he kept four or five border collies and I was amazed at the size differances.

They were worked hard and I was amazed at the control he had over them. Very well trained indeed.

I was at a fun day with my kids yesterday and watched a border collie show where the handler was rounding up indian ducks. Was fantastic to watch.

btw what are squaters?

i thought every lurcher man knew what a squater was but if its a serious question then a squater is a rabbit that tucks its self into the grass/ground etc in the hope of not being seen and it then enables you to walk right up to it making it an easy catch for an experienced dog atb billy
