stewie 3,387
A bloke im working with over here has brought a pure collie with him from ireland and ive been taking it out with me on an evenings mooch and the one thing that has amazed me is the power in the fecking thing !!! If it sees anything its crazy to get it to it near pulling my fooking arm out its honestly one of the strongest dogs ive ever walked but ive never thought of collies like this and never really walked a pure one are they all like this?? nat 8
Mines the same, been close to a couple of foxes too if she got close enough the fox wouldn't stand a chance if she had a good chase without it disapearing through a hedge she could easily take one. Been lamping with us a few times but she's not fast enough and just puts the pup off, great ferreting dog tho Quote Link to post
bird 9,864
yes mate there arestrong dogs, the colliexgreys are strong lurchers as well, they will tackle any quarry. They will tackle foxes no prob pre ban, some of the farm collies ive seen round the farms are tough dogs that will bite, and a 50lb of teeth on your is no feck joke . The only prob as ive said before with them +xs is they are very senistive dog+robtic, but physically very tough dogs+ colliexgreys Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
I had a near pure collie as a kid and in the pic with this post he was getting on a bit, but he taught me all the basics of owning a hunting dog,he was exactly the same speed as a hare and never caught loads,he would just run behind waiting for a mistake,Rabbits though he could catch, his best haul was 36,he killed more rats than any dog I've owned to date and you could leave him to mind a hole while you worked the other side,he could catch any bird but pheasants were his best quarry, never had a dog that caught that many and made it look easy,I don't know how he would of got on with these melanistics though as they can fly from a standing start,a general good all round dog but I have to say although he brought everything back he was 'nt hunting for me but himself,he had too much brain and would slink off in a blink of an eye and just turn up with something dead and you never even got to see him do it,I've kept a lot of collie based lurcher's down the years and have never had a real bad one, they have a lot of stamina the closer you breed to the collie but nowadays I like a bit of something else in the mix as well (deerhound, beddy, saluki) as I think it gives you a bit extra when its needed, atb,WM 1 Quote Link to post
martnmagik 68
ive got 2 border collie pups (8months) and they are totally different to say they are from the same litter. rogue is a little shite and just wants to destroy things from toys to his kennel, you name it and he will ruin it, but peggy his sister is so chilled out its unreal, but saying that she is turning into a brilliant dog to be out ferreting with, her nose is outstanding and she seems to learn without being shown or taught what to do. but they both have endless stamina and strength, that im sure with time will exell that of most other breeds besides the obvious few Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
I had a collie before, that was brought down from Scotland, strongest dog i've ever owned, like a fecking bear. Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
My big collie was being held with two lurchers watching a pair racing after the lure before we knew it they(mostly the collie) had pulled a large man to the ground straight on his back. They have to have endurance throughout the day hearding even with their size they have power. Quote Link to post

ftm 3,357
like this post lads as the pure collie disnt get enough mention in the lurcher world, i too owned a cattle dog that i only got as a guard dog /family dog but this dog regulary took fox [pre ban ] when we went out for a mooch and he too was a master at the ferreting /ratting scene the one thing he excelled at was his protection of my daughter whom he would have laid his life on the line for and for that im truly gratefull to have owned such a dog he passed away last year at the grand age of 17 Quote Link to post
