RossM 8,149
aquired a new bit permission through the summer and decided to go have a look last night with my mate, into the first field probably around 7acres and it was abundant, slipped dog and there was something for the freezer in the bag, into the next field, it had had cattle in it up until friday but there was rabbits everywhere, walked up on one slipped my bitch, she run it over the brow and then heard a yelp, back she came and i noticed she was limping and had a 10-15mm split just behind her toes on the front of her foot, back on the lead that was her night over. walked a bit further clamper middle of field, my mate sent his collie x out, he was on it and looked to be catching it when he went over with a crack and was screaming like a banshee, that noise will stay with me for the rest of my days, horrible, it was, run up to him and could tell instantly he had broken his leg it was just hanging there, lookes like he hit a cattle feeder overturned in the grass, felt so bad for my mate carrying him back to the motor, i had walked these fields at the weekend and never even noticed the feeder there, i told my mate just to get himself away to the vet and i got my missus to pick me up, it wasnt till i got home and was cleaning the bitch up i noticed aswell as the small split, she has a 4 inch tear in her front leg exposing the muscle, (will put picture up later) so im off to vet at 9 when it opens, sickener when this happens, makes you think, well i do anyway is it really worth it? i really feel for the dogs the give there all and end up f*****g theirselves, the good news is my mates dogs break is operable which will be getting done today, still unsure if he'll run again or if my mate will even run him again anyway. it cost him £500 just for last night. my bitch is 7 now done me proud put alot in the freezer for me over the last 5-6yrs i think im just going to semi-retire her after this, still cant get that noise out my head.......... if theres any interest in this thread i'll keep yous posted on both dogs, if not i wont bother, cheers RM Quote Link to post

Lab 10,979
I know exactly where the hatred of that screaming comes from and it was a spaniel i saw getting run over when i was really young. Horrible. Also many nights at the Greyhound racing with the dogs hurting themselves........ Quote Link to post

sikastag_1 689
It's not a nice thing to hear mate, big Skye was lamping last year as she caught a rabbit she let it go and started screaming I was only a field away from the motor I knew it wasn't good I carried her back, same crack robbing emergency vets rather than want to help the dog they want to line their pockets even more, but like you said they know theyve got you anyway turned out shed snapped the ligament that holds the leg in the socket and she was goin that fast when she done it it went under and In to the pelvis, anyway she had to be took to an expert and I got her fixed she had toggle surgery, but it was an expensive rabbit I would have been a LOT cheaper feeding the ferrets sirloin that night, she's doing well just getting her built up again that was the black bitch my misses had at drumlanrig, there's no substitute for quality in bone damages mate make sure he sees the right vet it could make the difference, hope all ends well keep us posted Quote Link to post
