hi everybody wondering if any one out there can help me.we have a three year old staffordshire and at the moment she is developing bold patches on her flanks.this seams to happen this time of year but gets worse as each year passes.her diet consits of a complete meal plus codliver oil and occastionly oily fish, thinking this may help the problem.has any one out there had similar problems with their staffys and if so did you manage to find a cure. :hmm:

My old pitty got also bald patches when he was younger ! After the vet check them under the microscope he can see that was Demodex ,a type of mibes ! After few weeks putting some spezial stuff for that on it , it goes away and than only the fur has to grow there again ! till than it never break out again !

the vet tell me , every dog got demodex , it could break out through a low imunesystem , maybe a sickness or something ! On a healthy dog it don´t break out !

at that time he was a little sick due to bad weather ! You write she is on diet , if she is a little fatty maybe that could be the reason for a not so healthy imunesystem and it break out ... if it is demodex !

maybe it could help you but only a vet can give you a real diagnose !

this happened to a lakey bitch, always in the winter months,it started happening from approx 3 years old onwards, and got worse every year,i took her to the vets and a simple skin scrape indicated a hormone problem...a change in diet helped slightly, but it was for ever happening around the colder months,it never effected her working ability etc,but became an eyesore...i tried all manner of medications, including ointments, shampoo"s,but as the vet told me,just leave it run its course,...as the bitch reached her older years,it did start to improve,it always affected her flanks, and base of tail the worse

Its very comon in staffs mate.

My bitch has a bald patch on tail which Im told is somthing to do with scent glands.

She is also bald behind the ears, but this usually clears up in summer when the sun is on her back.

If its not mange I wouldnt worry about it.

You could get it scaped and tested but unless its bad Id leave it.

Our Boxer used to get it when she was younger had it tested at vets in case round worm or mites but all clear. Vet said it is common in Boxers and Dobi's, so as Staffs are related to Boxers (Bulldog genes) maybe it is the same, other appear to think so.

It would appear about now when her coat changed, two bald areas on her flanks, by full summer she was all back to normal.
