So, does everyone use a bipod with their hmr?

I'm coming to the conclusion that you pretty much need one to achieve its potential. Otherwise I'd end up using mine like an overly powerful rimfire at shorter ranges than it is capable of.

Thank god! Thought my shooting had gone downhill!

Couldn't get better than an inch group at 110 yards from a sitting position (FT style).

 

Will get a stud fitted asap so I can use my harris bi-pod.

 

So, to ask a stupid question, do you guys all shoot prone?

WITH MY ANNIE I SHOT OF THE BACK OF MY ARM OR USED A GOOD SET OF SHOOTING STICKS WHILST HUNTING.BUT A BIPOD IS A MUST FOR TARGET SHOOTING.IF I SHOT A GROUP SITTING AT 100 YDS I WOULD NEED A REEL TAPE MEASURE AND A MATE TO HOLD THE OUTHER END TO MEASURE MY GROUPS.

Realistically Duncan, to get those group sizes with most rifles, people are mainly talking about from a bipod or other rest (sandbag etc) and prone or from bench/support. There are to many variables otherwise. The small group sizes quoted just give an indication of what the rifle, ammo, firer, combination IS capable of.

 

All of the long range corvids and rabbits I shoot with my CZ are from prone and bipod or other support, (over 150m) and any shots less than that, I will use a bipod where I can. This is for the simple reason- I am there to kill vermin, preferably with every shot taken.

Any support you can use in the situation is good, fence post, back back, etc, i try where ever possible to shooot prone...

 

this increases the chances of sucess, So is a must in my book when you can have the option...

Thanks Tegater and Snapshot, I appreciate your responses.

It's new territory for me to use a bipod regularly. I got bought a harris one for a birthday present a few years back (wifey!) and tried it on my HW100S, but I'd been a keen FT'er for years and found it more of an encumbrance. When I went up to a rimfire, range was extended certainly, but I found FT sitting position and shooting at quarry using supported shots (leaning against fences, trees etc) to suit the task well enough.

The HMR is on another level really and I am enjoying getting to grips with it. Long range sniping tool for certain .

Let's hope it stays dry for a bit longer for some prone practise!

I have a cz and started with the clean it every time with a brush and solvent. Being a slow learner it eventually dawned on me that the groups were warndering around for a box or so before settling down, each time I cleaned it, Now I just give it a push through with an alcohol patch to clear the crude out follwed by a couple of dry ones and an oiled to finish. Remove the oil with an alcohol patch and a couple fo drys and it shoots to poi from a cold barrel now.CZ rough shoots 1/2-3/4" all condotions being good.I'm now testing a sako quad varmint which I think will group a tad tighter.

Don't stand if you can sit, don't sit if you can lay down. Take every advantage available for every shot, if that means prone and a bipod that will usually bring the best results.

 

Same applies to EVERY caribre!

understand that but some people like to know exactly were there at.i am told that if you don;t clean the barrel accuracy will suffer and barrel life will shorten.the reason for worrying about groups is to ensure a clean kill and to preserve good meat.if your rifle shoots well enough without cleaning you are lucky some are not so lucky simples if the round comes out at 2500 fps and leaves powder residue why would you not clean same as a centerfire

This is about the best I have done at 100 yards, but I would certainly expect within 1" anytime!

Yeh, it's 4 shots, I seem to remember I bottled out of the 5th when I saw the group!

 

 

This is what happens when you put the 5th one in Deker,but it is .243 @ 100yds.....

Ha Ha, .243 is easy, mine go in the same hole! But after 3 in the same hole I stop wasting ammo!

 

Couple of clicks left and a few down perhaps!?

 

Good shooting Martin,.......... and yes I didn't let go the 5th because as soon as I saw the group I got nervous, and instinctivly knew in that state I couldn't put a 5th in. .... ...but 3 and 4 were as close to the same hole as you could get.
