Angry Farmers?

Recommended Posts

40 heifers let out on to the main road.... Resulting in 2 that had to be shot.... Pigeon shooters coming on and flattening the wheat so they can put there decoys on... Sheep fence bent down because they couldn't be arsed walking 20 yards down to the gate....leverets run and left in the fields .... Cubs left on the stubble for all to see... Lamps shining at the house and frightening the kids... Kids building fires in the woods and leaving broken beer bottles where stock can walk on them ..cartridges left out for the cows too munch on including the plastic wads...that is week in and week out... And you wonder why they get mad !!!! We now have a good group of travelling lads come... Polite and well mannered and have there own way of policing the land :-)

Why not just ask for permission - you wouldn't want people stomping round your back garden at night would you?

I don't get this about back garden, shooting people usually bang on about it.

Are you telling me that farmers bought the land like I bought my back garden? Land was taken off the commoner and split into estates and which have been then handed down the family, they work the land and live on the land which was handed down. They can also lease out the land.

They get tax breaks for growing food and on their tools, car etc, susbsidies and they are owners of land which they can then sell off to build on.

They even get paid not to grow food on some fields.

Now I have a garden and I grow some things there but I worked and paid for it and I don't get tax breaks at all.

Farmers were given the land to work and look after for everyone, not to see as their back garden. If so we can only go to country parks, which we also pay for...

Farmers are in a point of power, if they didn't want people on their land they should make it hard, ditches usually work of thick hedges, sorry they ripped most of them up to make more money. You won't find a poor farmer, they are just tight.

Not every piece of land is owned by a farmer. My family have land, and we bought it just like you bought your back garden; with hard cash.

I think there is a lot of rubbish spoken about land owning on this site. If you go where you are not supposed to be, don't get caught. If you do, you have to accept what you get. This talk of going back to nick things and burn down steadings is really sad. It makes the site look bad and makes lurcher owners look like thugs. With these attitudes there will be no farmer who would welcome you.

I am mainly a shooter, but I enjoy a working dog as well as anyone else. I have various bits of permisson and there are various ways to get it. Just asking is a good start! I have also gained permission by word of mouth (do a good job for someone and they will reccommend you to their friends) and bartering it for a days labour or some other service. If you get really desperate why not ask a landowner to rent the hunting rights for a specified period?

The landowner has the responsibility of the land that they own (however they got it orginally) and most try to look after it. your argument is just stupid Richie - you saying that if someone doesn't secure something then it is free reign to nick it? Without farmers you wouldn't have a hobby. Don't be bitter about money - life ain't fair but show some respect.

I wasn't saying that it's free reign to nick it, however it is my responsibilty to keep things secure so my insurance permiums don't rise. I live with the expectation that people will try and steal from me and that is why i protect my home.

If people didn't take an interest in shooting and hunting then they wouldn't be able to supplement their income with people paying yearly to shoot there or letting people run a shoot on the land. Paying for stalking rights. It works both ways.

People hunted in the UK before all the woodlands were pulled down and turned into open fields.

Not worried about money, you either have to be born into it or work hard to get it, way of life.

Land that is bought is usually not on the scale that we are talking that farmers own.

I could buy a woodland or field tomorrow but most is useless and small, there are so many laws on what you can do with that land it makes it pointless to buy.

Big farms are normally well off, small farms struggle like most small businesses.................and farmers are like anyone else, some are brilliant lads and some are wankers.

As some have said, dont make a f*****g menace of yourself and keep it low key and you should be fine........if you get told to f**k off, well then just say fair enough and f**k off.

As for shooting dogs, we all know some gung ho arseholes............they are melons, forget em!

IF you can't be arsed to get permission, and run your dogs wherever, then you must me aware of the consequences if your caught by the land owner/police etc...

Like has been said, if you own land, be it 300ft or 300 acres, you would take the hump if someone without the authority to be on there was actually running game or dogs on your land Inc your back garden. Just that some gardens are alot bigger than others.

Its a simple matter of possession. And that's all it is, you run without permission, then accept what can happen & vice versa.

In this day & age when loads of stock is going "walkies" then you either call the landowner if you have permo & inform him/her you will be there or as said, run the risk of getting aggro.

Because believe me, it's easy for a farner to open a gate and let a few cattle/sheep into a field that you were running on that night, and your case is done & dusted.

Run the dogs, so run the risk where you run

i occasionally stray the wrong side of the fence so to speak, but i look at it a different way.......if someone was walking round my back garden doing things they shouldnt then i would be pretty pissed off, faced with a gobby little chav i wouldnt hesitate to shoot his dog, id think twice if they just buggered off with a "sorry". we all know when things can get a bit ropey.....you pays your money, you takes your chances!

ive been threatened, but no farmer is gonna shoot a dog on a lead walking away......just walk off and say sorry and hope you still have 4 fully inflated tyres when you get to the motor!

if your on land where you are not meant to be and the farmer/landowner whoever comes tearing after you,the worst thing to do is run :whistling: You look guilty! :whistling: Just wait for them to arrive and when asked "what the fcuk u up to?" :nono: Tell them, lamping a few rabbits. 9 times out of ten they just say move on,you will always get one cranky fecker and a heated exchange, :censored: but not often, and if you do,ignore the fella and shoot all the windows out the farmhouse with a catty on the way home! :shok: Happy hunting, shushy ;)

Thats utter bollocks for a start. There is a farm near me for sale, 199 acres of prime arable land. Like the rest of Lincs it will be hooching with game. The largest land owner in the county (15,000 acres) started life as a builder. I know another bloke in north Northumberland with 10,000 acres who started life as a butcher. Dale Farm (the traveller site) was sold to them. Land comes up for sale all the time, in large and small quantities.
