E-collars for deaf dogs

i was just considering an e collar if worst comes to worst and my pup is fully deaf, would you be able to train it to come back to you with the E-collar?

 

and also i have thought about tracking collars GPS ones i have looked into them and they are expensive, but i guess theyre worth having if it comes to losing the dog.

 

any advice is welcome thanks

mate think you can get an e-collar that with vibrate on it think this would be your best bet.dont see why you could not train it to come back to a vibration.

cheers mate, im just looking for ways to keep him as a working dog, i thought about pet homing him if he is deaf, but i ohnestly like the dogs temprament and i dont think someone else would look after him the way i want him to be

mate as long as you can get his recall spot on which i think you would be able to as all he need to no is that the vibration means come back instead of the work of command like come etc.you can also teach things like sit stay with hand signals.and the retrive will be easy because no word of command should be needed.

he doesn't no if its deaf yet hes amusing it is course it wont listen to him

no riohog none of the others were, theyre all great and react to noises, i think hes a one off, he was first born, and he did get stuck i dont know if that would contribute to hearing damage or not, and im going to buy a whistle tomorrow as i am the worst person for whistling thanks for the advice

atb with it mate hope you get on ok and respect to you for giving it a go and giving the pup a 2nd chance because alot of people would of f**ked it off.

I would probably go with a vibrateing collar, there are ones out there specaly for the deaf dog, and are not that expencive either,

Deaf dogs are no different to hearing dogs - just they cant hear you, training is a little different, but can be done easily,

all of us use body languge in some form when training our dogs - all's you would be doing is cutting out the voice controal,

depending on what you intend the dog to do work wise, then i dont see why a deaf dog couldnt work.

 

First of all i would get the pup tested, its not that expencive and then you would know if it is deaf - or just playing deaf.

 

If it is deaf, then you can start with training for a deaf dog.

 

some people use hand/body signals - some people use light signals i:e the way you would use a lamp to tell your dog to come back etc

 

With the collar - you can get different types, from the cheap ones which only work at close range

to the more expencive ones that will work over a mile away.
