fieldsportsman 107
Cleaned out my hutch as I do every week, and put some anti parasite stuff on the ferrets, anyways I noticed that they have patches of red on their backs as if someone put loads of of dots from a red pen, it's near to where they were scratched by a rabbit, what could this be, also these little White moths flew out which I've never seen before, what are they, I've phoned the vets for a check up, want to know what u lads think, cheers Quote Link to post

cornishtrapper 3
what do you use for bedding? Quote Link to post
nod 285
have they been is season recently, if you have 2 jills one could have been in season and treated the other jill as her young, dragging and biting her on the back of the neck causing it to become red and sore, e45 cream on the sore should make it bit better Quote Link to post
fieldsportsman 107
I'm using paper at the mo but getting hay as it's the winter. Nod that's fair point one does drag the other about. I've only really noticed it when I saw the scratched made by rabbits, it may be bruising from them. Or maybe jst part of skin and never noticed, I think I'm jst bit paranoid. Does anyone have any idea what thoughs whitish flys are, Quote Link to post
ferret100 47
The little insects are probably Whiteflies, they are an problem to crops but not to animals. The red patches/red dots are probably from each other squabbling, it's very common this time of year and a few applications of Sudocream should sort it out very quickly. Atb Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Does it look kind of like red/brown rust on their skin? Quote Link to post
fieldsportsman 107
kind of mate, why Edited September 7, 2011 by fieldsportsman Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Could be mange mate. Looks like a kind of reddy/brown rust on the skin when you part the hair. Can be sorted with ivermectin. When i had it i used xeno mini 50 for the smaller ferrets and xeno 450 for the larger hobs. Just a thought. Quote Link to post
