my 3/4 bred is only 18'' to shoulder, small bitch but very hard , i guess most beddy whips would be bout 18 - 21 '' ,

i have a strait x beddi whippet he is 18" also and tbh i dont think he's any better than a whippet... the smaller breeds lack the speed i find

:hmm: my small 3/4 bred certianly doesnt lack speed , she may lack stamina , as a few long runs may tire her out , but she is great ferreting bitch , the small but fast bolts from rabbits is her speciality , just is also a keen lamper , even though had just started her on lamp season just finishing , she was mainly used as a day dog , works well with my larger deerhound/greyhound , also is certainly not affriad to get into the thick of cover , bushes things out well , IMO the smaller breed is the better for the rabbiting dog , at 18 '' she does for me :)

never been a small dog fan as a lurcher to me is an allrounder when i was doing rabbits ful time i had a beardie collie grey and aline bred collie grew both were more than ample for fwerreting in all waeather and lamping whippets on there own would not stand the cold there feet would burst up and well , there no were as hardy as agood line bred collie cross or terreir cross all the best

if iv'e read you right this is your first running dog,imo you'd be better with a lurcher.a whippet is fine for what it is but theres every chance you'll get bitten by the running dog bug and soon outgrow it,a lurcher will give you more options in the years to come.
