Bob the rehab Coopers Hawk

Recommended Posts

i am currnetly rehabbing a male coopers Hawk that was found floating down the Rio Grande almost drowned, at the time he was not quite hard-penned and had not begun hunting. As a consequence he needed hunting practice to get competent to survive in the wild. I have been hunting him for about 3 weeks now and he is taking quarry but not yet ready to go it alone so a few more weeks hunting are needed before release.

Here are a few pics for your enjoyment.

Brilliant stuff dirtwinger.. you seem to be doing a grand job with the rehab and i bet it will be a awsome feeling when you finally release him back into the wild..

It will be a good feeling for sure, he is pretty close to being ready just want to see him take a few more head and improve his footing and chasing then he will be good to go. In the meantime he is a fun bird to have around very mellow and keen to chase everything. Next year I think i will take a female ofr falconry at this same stage as they seem to be very easy to work with when trained at this stage.
