Any home remedies?

Recommended Posts

I was coughing till close on 4 a.m. and keeping the rest of the family awake too, same the night before.I have a chest infection at the moment so I Googled the remedy and the bit I got back was to relieve the coughing drink hot water with a spoon of honey. Now I dont know if I used the wrong type honey or what but Christ it tasted SHYTE.Youd think that a natural sweet substance made by buzzy bees and mother nature might have a soothing pleasing taste....LIKE FURK IT DID! It was like drinking RHINO PISS(i presume as I have never tasted it before.)I forced 3 mouth fulls of the mix but couldnt continue.I must say though it seemed to relieve the coughing.....or was that exhaustion?Anyone ever find this?Im going to have to see the doc I suppose, any home remedies that can give reliefe for this?I am on the exputex but I may as well be drinking engine oil,no benefit from it as of yet after 4 days.

If its a chest infection you need an antibiotic as soon as you can, double dose the first dose to get on top of it. The ball and chain had a bad chesty cough years back and ignored it using over the counter remedies, only went and got pneumonia because she ignored it. Can be dangerous.

I don't know about chest infections I've had anti-B's for that, but for sore throats my Granddad told me to drink warm milk with a couple of caps of whisky mixed in. As the milk lines your throat the Alcohol works on the soreness and infection apparently. It seemed to work for me.

Co Codamol works for a cough Liam, the codine acts as a cough suppressant. The over the counter strength ones should work fine.

Malt is right, there are also cough syrups with codeine. Two effervescent co-codomol and a beer you will sleep like a dog. lol

Natural ingredients cough syrup: elder berries, mallow leaves, liquorice sticks, aniseed, honey: all boiled up together. Our new lodger who is into foraging and living off the land has just made a batch of this: smells really nice and tastes even better: she swears by it. I'll know when if it works because she'll stop coughing
