Sooting sticks?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys me again :duh: just wondering if anyone has experience with shooting sticks? i assume being a break barrel it makes more sense to use these than a bi-pod that would fix to the rifle as this would make reloading a bitch, are they stable when aiming and can they improve accuracy?

all feedback welcome

Shooting sticks are brilliant in the right situation and for the right reason. I generally use them only for shooting over high cover, such as long grass etc etc. Using a pair of sticks is better than no support, but if you can "lock out" the rest of your body as well, by leaning against a wall / tree etc they are superb.

I have never bought any as I cant see the point, and my first ones were made of two lengths of hazel cut to the required length, and tied together with a thin bungee, so that the shooting height can be altered easily. I now use two lengths of fibre glass pole, with a cycle inner tube tight over each one to make them silent and non slip, followed by the bungee.

I should also add that I do nearly all my shooting from sticks in the seated or kneeling position for extra stability, and "lock out" my weak arm to prevent forward or backward movement, but that will depend on your length of forend.

I have never used the tripod sticks, as they just dont appeal to my style of shooting, but I believe they are very good to.

Hello,

I use a shooting stick, its one a purchased that is adjustable in height. Three sections that you just twist to release and twist back the other way to lock. Adjutable so, so quickly with a 'Y' on top that is rubber coated. I do a lot of my shooting in the standing position with the aid of the stick or against a tree or fence post etc. Its also good as a walking stick, I dont go shooting without it.
