As expected waking a 6 year old at 6am wasn't the easiest thing to do, but from the time he woke up to the minute we got back in the car i swear he didn't shut up once :D

We got to Torrington at around 7 30 and on the long hill up to Gav's we passed Bruce with his lurcher, Druid, last time we had seen them was out ratting, my lad (FIn) was there that day too he loves getting out.

When I got to Gav's he said " Bruce is coming out with us today", I didn't know, I thought he was just walking the dog as I waved on the way past leaving him with about a mile of steep incline left to walk, :icon_redface:

We had a fair pack of dogs now ,a few ferrets, the weather was lovely so we headed to a large wooded area surrounded by gorse onto open fields, we thought we could have a good mooch with the dogs, using the terriers to push to the couple of lurchers and drop some purse nets onto the ground buries.

The first bury we came to was around 8 holes Bella my jack and doyle Gav's Patt marked strongly so we netted up, collared a small jill and sent her in, it took around 3 mins for the first bolt of the day, netted and despatched, good start. That was it from that one so we picked up and moved on.

The sun was getting up now and it was nice to have the cover of the trees, we walked down a long slope into the woodland and the dogs maked a larger bury around 20 holes this time, same procedure, netted and ferret entered we stood back and waited, we could here rumbling underground and the rabbit flew out shaking the net off, the dogs gave chase and went out of sight, we looked at who to blame for the lost rabbit, and poor laying of the net, when Druid came back with the rabbit in her mouth and put it at Bruces feet, result. again that was it from the bury.

We had another 2 from smaller buries 8-10 holers,1 a real hard one to budge we had tried 2 year old ferrets but it took an experianced jill to finally budge it, it was hard going taking just 1's every time . Gav decided to take his dogs and his shadow( my lad) further up the slope and walk along as me and Bruce walked along a small track half way down the slope. Druid stopped dead by a hole and didn't move Bella maked strongly as well. We started to net up and realised this on had a few holes spaced over a big area, around 25 holes. We entered 2 ferrets and stood back, we could here rumbling uderground but it took a while to budge it, my year old hob followed the rab out so I was pleased as it wasn't an easy one. The ferrets were just in and out of every hole so that was that again another 1.

We walked up out of the woods and the Bella pushed a rabbit out of some gorse which Martha my young lurcher chased into some thick bramble, Bella worked hard through some thick cover but the rabbits were going to ground in the real thick stuff.

We called it a day, Fin had eaten about 2lb of blackberries by now so I was worried for his pants on the journey home :D

It was a hard won 5, but a real enjoyable day in good company,

plus points the young ferrets got a run and my hob done well, plus Bella marked well again and never stopped grafting ( maybe too much), downside my young lurcher seems to be getting more and more skitty around other dogs, she was obviously out of her comfort zone today and didn't settle until near the end of the day, persavearence I think :hmm:

All in alll good day
