ru_and_dill 0
Has anyone got this cross. How do u rate them to other lurchers. Before the whole world says it, the best dog for the job depends on the job! And the world divides into those who believe that a lurcher without a trace of saluki is like a pie without a pint, and those who wouldn't trust anything with feathers behind the ears. The pro-saluki lobby point out that anything bred to course gazelle for dozens of miles over the desert has got to bring staying power in huge measure, while the anti-saluki crew point out that anythign with Arab blood is unreliable, theuir recall is shot to pieces, hunting-up isn't so mcuh a failing as a mark of the breed, and so on. And both are perfectly right My two youngest are cases in point - the Saluki-Beddie (and bitzer) one can go on for ever and a day, but doesn't really start doing brilliantly until he's had the first of his freshness run off him (run him 6 miles on a string at lunchtime before lamping that evening to calm him down), while the deerhound-greyhound type scarcely needs a string to keep him to heel, but is always the first to turn for home. Combine the pair of them and you could have a fabulous piece of kit: biddable, loyal, with boundless energy and recall to die for. Or you could have a work-shy,deaf-when-it-suits-him runner who knackers every field for miles around Or you take the coward's way out; never breed, never buy a lurcher, and just wait for an irresistable pair of eyes to lock onto you from a rescue kennel or a roadside, and give your life and your love to that one. It works for me Quote Link to post
Staghound 0
i bred a litter 12 months ago like this the sire was 3/4 deer 1/4 grey and the dame 1/2 sal 1/2 grey. 2 of the pups i kept out of the litter are going realy well and have started taking foxs the smaller ones in the litter matured realy quick and started catching rabbits at 5 months. so far they seem to be realy good dogs and have alot going for them. 2 through heavy to the deerhound side and ended up to big for my liking tho Quote Link to post

Don't forget, not everyone reading this is friendly forces..... Quote Link to post
