Yes we should all have an open mind my Partner recently booked an obedience course for my five and half month whippet, there was no way I was going to attend, but i went along, and it has really surprised me, what a Trainer can do i now see this pup sitting,, going down, and staying on command, and doing as good as the Collies and Labs,

Penny has written a very good book which can be used at anytime of the year for reference as and when needed. Many books once read are put on the shelf to collect dust, this one wont espeacially if you work your dogs. I can relate to much of what is written in her book, but there are many methods mentioned that I will now practice that I never knew of if needed. The book certainly makes you become more aware of what to look for in your dog, and how to deal with the situation. There's no waffling and the text written is of good quality and to a style that any reader will understand.

 

As for Penny herself, always willing to give advice and guide you in the right direction, and instantly too.

Never did i say that because she was a female she was talking shite how did you come to that conclusion from one post? My Girlfriend is a very keen hunter and so his her mother so playing the sexist card wont work this time boy . Im mearly saying that writing some stupid articles in the CMW like Do dogs need tails and other stupid related articles means IN MY OPIONION they are mearly shite and i have not bought one for afew months now as it seems the magazine is on a slippery slope so they wont be getting my 2.10 a week or my monthly payments

I have asked Pennys advice on a few injuries and the forum is all the better for having her contribution. As for the CMW, i dont buy it as in my opinion it is a pile of shite and a shadow of its former self the shooting news and isn't aimed at working lurchers and terriers, BUT Penny will tell you herself that articles are watered down and they wont publish the "real deal" meat and potatos of a story so that isn't her fault..

Would agree with you there Simo, I don't buy the Countrymans but if I have skipped through it on occasion Pennys articles are much better than the usual claptrap.

 

As for this site, no one does more to help others with honest, sound practicle advice.. And long may she do so..!!

Whoa there.......we are all big boys and girls here...........the bloke is entitled to his opinion and he aint lieing about CMW, its utter shite start to finish.

People have seen my opinion of Skycat already and I will honestly say they if they are watering your stuff down, then personally I would give them f**k all.

Pretty soon all they will be left with is that idiot Toka or whatever his handle is and his silly f*****g plummer who has caught 2 rats.

I remember that article about dogs' tails and I will admit it was probably the worst article I've ever written But I'll excuse myself by saying it gets bloody hard to think of something slightly different to write every week for over 5 years now, or thereabouts. I quite agree with what is generally said about the CMW, but they're still going, and their readership is increasing all the time. Its just a shame that more experienced working dog men and women don't take the chance and send in some really good articles. Darcy did a couple, but that was all.

 

The main problem is that you can't write about what really happens in the field, anything to do with hares or foxes must be 'down memory lane' or 'pre ban', and when I asked if I could do stuff about deer they said no way! Ever! Not even pre ban.

 

If their fees didn't pay my dog food bills I'd happily cut down the amount I write for them to once a month or so, but it is a job for me, one I do to the best of my ability given the restrictions. They don't water down my articles, I write them in accordance with their regulations about what you can and can't say. And yes, it does get very annoying when you've just been out and had a good day or night on some game and you can't write about it honestly. But even EDRD is a lot more careful about how they word articles these days: its just the shit laws we have to live by if we don't want visits from plod.

 

It's all very well putting stuff on the internet about what you do with your dogs, but as some people have found out, its not worth spilling the beans on anything which is currently illegal: they have ways of finding you out.

Thats right i am entitled to my opinion and yes it is complete shit. Never any articles to encourage young lads into the sport with accurate honest write ups not the usual " Went lamping and caught 35 rabbits " this is slowly but surely killing the sport off in my opinion, As WILF said if they dont want the TRUTH to what happens and they are TELLING you want to write.
