There's another thread somewhere on breaksticks, which suggests to me that they're only used by people using bull or specifically pitbull crosses on big game, as I'm sure you know. Do you really want Penny's opinion or are you just trying to ruin a thread you don't like?

Don't worry, we all know you're both hardmen (in your own mind anyway).

Stick to ferrets!!!

I bet he don't need a break stick to remove them from a dead rabbit.. :D

People who I would call experts are professionals in a particular field: like good Greyhound vets who specialise in running dogs, though even they aren't infallible as I know from experience: even the

I admire the way Skycat always takes time to write well thought out and sometimes very long replies when asked questions or contributing to a thread.........thats all time and material for an author g

:icon_redface: Stop it you guys! I'm very touched by your nice comments, but seriously, there's plenty of other people like me out there: they just don't write books or go on forums. I just seem to h

any person experienced in their own field can be classed as an expert by those people who seek advise from them. The more people who accept their advise, then the more likely it is that that person is worthy of the title.

If a person calls themselves an expert then that is another matter.

"ex" = something that has been + "spurt" = a drip under pressure.

Skycat, I don't believe that you fit into the second catagory .

I've probably embarrassed the woman with my initial post. All I know is that she could not have been more helpful to me when I've messaged her, and one of her posts saved me an expensive trip to the vet. She even sent me a chapter from her book in answer to a question I posed. She could have said ' buy my book, you'll find an answer to your question there'.

Not many people go out of their way to help out people they don't know, and PT does so on a continual basis- as many people contributing to this thread have testified. As for CMW they are so careful about upsetting the status quo that they only accept watered down,'sanitised' articles. All contributors to it have their articles edited and if there's anything that might upset antis and their Taliban mentality, the article is mangled so it passes their strict censorship regime. On the rare occasions I've bought it, her articles are the only ones which are worthy of reading----despite the constraints placed upon her by CMW's editorial team.

It doesn't do to put people on pedestals, all I'm saying is she knows her stuff and shares her knowledge freely. It's a tough, cash -conscious world and it;s refeshing to come across people who help out and expect no reward other than to make your dog's life a bit easier.

Of late I have spoken to Penny regarding an injury that one of my dogs recently sustained. Penny was shown pictures, and had a run down of circumstances.

After I had visited the specialist and Greyhound man, Pennys diagnostics prior to these two visits were spot on.

Just goes to show that her advice was not a fluke, but she is clearly someone who understands her dogs, and has a wealth of knoweldge.

Cards on the table, Penny , and I are friends of long standing. We have often found ourselves pitted against each other on the coursing field. ,[pre-ban].

Penny lives and breathes her sport, and ,she is lucky to be complemented by a partner in Andy, who is her male replica .[Andy is one of ,if not the best slippers of coursing dogs I have ever had the pleasure of encountering, and ,has also forgotten more about ferreting than most will ever learn,]

Back to Miz Skycat

Penny has devoted her life to hunting dogs

.I've been in the game for 50 years, but I know I can still learn a lot, as a recent phone call to Penny proves [,I was asking about dietary needs in dogs ]. .

I have never heard Penny refer to herself as an expert,in fact she is a very self effacing person,

allways ready to hear other points of view ,but not afraid to disagree , in short honest.

Penny is a thoroughly genuine lady, who has ,through trial and error, amassed a wealth of knowledge regarding running dogs and the injuries that often befall them.

I was proud to compete against her on the coursing field in those golden days, and I am proud to call her a friend today. Inan.

Inan: you've got me all misty eyed there, and thank you for the compliment: I can say likewise: there's not that many genuine people about who care for their dogs as you do, and who remain calm in the face of adversity/life's problems and injuries to dogs in the field. Now can we PLEASE call a halt to these compliments: its a damn sight easier fighting my corner when everyone's slagging me off. :hmm::tongue2::laugh: And I've been told that the doors in our house will need widening if this goes on much longer :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2::laugh:  I'm having a hard enough job keeping my feet on the ground since this thread started, :whistling::tongue2: :tongue2: and its all your fault Bezza :tongue2: :tongue2:

I'll hardly dare post on here at this rate! :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :D

Mind you: Rudyard Kipling's poem sums things up pretty well: two lines go like this: If you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same, etc etc. From a brilliant poem called IF, and a pretty good code to live by, for men and women alike IMO. No one's perfect, especially me, as those who know me can testify

Lovely photo J. Mine have only managed to find dead pike at the water's edge: I once had a bitch I trained to look for stuff under the water: Collie cross of course. I remember one day she found a dead pike, a big one, lying in over two foot of water at the edge of the lake: she couldn't reach it with her mouth, but kept pawing at it until it had floated up a bit, then she stuck her head under and grabbed it> wish I hadn't trained her to do that: it stunk, slimy and almost falling to bits :bad: :bad:

I cant really add anything that hasnt already been said but I have recieved several pieces of advice from Penny after posting a few questions. I have had my 1st lurcher now 6 months and found it a little trying at times to say the least, the advice given has been straight forward and easy to implement, gleaned from years of practical experience. Thanks very much Penny.
