scothunter 12,609
some cannons are worth a few quid chimp,if its the right date.others are just worth the scrap value.morphine better watch the junkies dont find out.suppose you culd back fill the hole when the c**ts are looking for them lol funny you should mention ww11.i dont know so much about the germans, but the british used to drop scrap ie cannons and other heavy stuff from bombers on german targets.yea i know its quite hard to believe,i was suprised when i read it aswell.guess it would do a considerable amount of damage falling from a plane onto a building. Workmen on the lsle of Lewis have uncovered grenades and petrol bombs that were buried after the war by the home guard but then the out of sight out of mind philosophy was strong then. cheers Callum Edited September 6, 2011 by mangy1983

Brilliant find though.
SportingShooter 0
Not something i'd expect to find anywhere. Must have been a surprise. Bet it would look good with a few hours spent taking the rust off it and a few thick coats of black paint. Any marks still visible on it? Crests etc

I wasn't 100% sure to be honest mate as naval guns similar to this were situated in remote areas during the two world wars, St Kilda and the Isle of Lewis being examples but on looking at pics of them on the internet although similar don't actually look as old as this cheers Callum

For coastal defense? Were they muzzle loaders like that old bruiser?
secretagentmole 1,701
Anything that could be used would be used, that loaded with grape shot, steel pieces etc, blasting down into a beach of advancing Germans, nasty.....
mangy1983 51
Really? For coastal defense? Were they muzzle loaders like that old bruiser? After doing a bit of googling on the net l found photos of the gun that protected St Kilda and the guns that protected Stornoway harbour during the wars and after looking at them they might not be as old as that cannon but still pretty old cheers Callum
