Bosun11 537
lauder and border regions 92 93 94 if you had the dogs you would and could lamp till dusk till dawn we got fed up after 4 hours some nites but took lots of people there and they were amazed , then they put box traps 22 rifle men, men from newcastle area etc they soon dwindled ,but never saw rabbs like that again took 38 out one feilsd in september , and there were twenty more feilds had an old pal with me paul douglas he had feild trail winner maggie he was dumbfounded and he had seen a few rabbs up fife shire , In the late 80's two mates of mine were doing that area a lot, huge huge bags, they were making good money on the rabbits both paid for taking them off and selling them on, I know they had the zoo at Haigh Hall in Wigan as one outlet and two other private zoo's, plus other dealers. Dogs wern't enough, you could simply run 'em to death and both guns and drop boxes were used. I used to laugh when the'd tell me you could start catching in a field without letting the dogs off the lead... Then I went up and seen it done!! With a good dog (and these were!) I dunno how many you could take out of one field but I wouldn't doubt 38 Whin. I got into the 60's there with one dog, though I've been and done as many on Shap about the same time. I've had decent numbers of different quarry over the years, back in the day i loved running numbers, a good mixed bag was a winner too, it's something that gets slated now though, usually by those who ain't got a hope in hell of doing it but anyways, these days, for me, it's quality not quantity and strictly rabbits only...! whin 463
nephew i was the judge he got two dogs from me i bred and has done well both first season dogs ,crafty dogs with pace lol, i was going run comp but had own dogs to work and my own hunting so never had the time but took several people out and one or two stuck out as real deals ,mark from cornwall was going to have it on his land i was going to run it, but i dont no if it would had worked ,so got on with my own style of hunting and thats about it ,comps are fine but got lots of hunting my self and a few trusted visitors ,plus we had bad snow so kinda nae good and there ploughing land as fast as they cut so early season when game should be about gets harder for rabbs until new crop shows ,ifd i do something like that has to be a hundrd percent like when i take guys angling on boat has to be game and fun ,as i take hunting fishing serous at times Quote Link to post
