Greek Phil - every time you write / speak, you just confirm what a total and utter cun.t you are. Please die.

I don't really agree, a lot of people have a lot of pride in their home county/country etc for reasons other than the accent or to try and cling on to regional identity. I don't agree 'multiculturalis

How is it that the scottish get away with writing in there accent?   If I waz ta write az I talk af of ya wudnt understand me or it wud all be az 'banned' text, cuz to be onest I'm a lazy speaker. S

is it hard to learn.is irish and scotish gaelic different??

I,m certainly Not A S.N.P. lackey,And I defer to even comment on Wee Eck !,but I will confirm it is Taught in Schools all over Scotland. One of the Biggest Gaelic medium schools(one that only teaches and speaks Gaelic until P3.when they are taught English) is In the Heart of Glasgow.Nursery,Primary and Secondary, and run classes for adult learners, the central belt has if not more Speakers than the Highlands .Contray to" Geek Pill " it isn't a dying Language kept for special occasions, but a healthy and vibrant one that is spoken by more of the populace than in days gone bye;It has stood the time of Ignoramaces, the amount of Intellects in the community would make it a fine place for "Geek Pill" To drink Brandy an look down on the Plebs from.

And there is a slight differance in Irish Gealic and Scots Gaelic, but enough in common to work out each other ,ie Chonas in Scots means Quarrelsome, but in Irish as part of a sentance is Friend ? Scent might have being using the Scots version ?There at the moment great ties With All Celtic Languages ,With visits To and from different regions,Manxs Cornwall etc.To learn ?it isn't easy, but if your committed like anything else will come with time put in,some folk just have a natural knack for soaking up things their Interested in . Language will alway open New doors, best not to think one is greater than another they all have something to Teach,Poc Leth deiridh,Philip Greugach :D

well you learn something new everyday.i didnt think it was taught down here.im guessing its a choice though like frech and german.i dont know any folk who speak gaelic, and it certainly wasnt taught when i was at school

Scott,Units out Falkirk way,Condoratt aswell in main stream school,Glasgow is Gaelic only ! Kids don't get taught in English or spoken to in English,Total Emersion,For last 4 years 70 + kids going into Primary from Nursery which is No English spoken aswell,Kids are like wee sponges when it comes to learning Languages, they just need the Oppertunity,Celtic Connection etc started as a small Gaelic gig, look how big that is !Bellahouston a Gower St,Next to the Neptune,Always taught Gaelic until the Asian community in the school started to Pull strings now they offer Urdu,Punjabi,If the funding set aside for Languages doesn't go into the native Tongue,Gaelic,Scots,Doric etc,it has to be spent else where ie,other Ehnic communities, catch 22.

IT gives the kids a broader understanding of there roots and music, and it makes it easier to learn other languages (proven,bi~lingual kids acheive better)The Gaelic community get a bad rap for being Anti British, but it is ill founded,Go up to Lewis,Harris the Crown still gets a look in,and if you want to chap on a door,Plenty, Tylers to let you in Clann na Geal..

I agree, it's good they're doing that. We've all got our roots and background, and having a kid learn more about what he and more about his history can only be beneficial IMO.

I was in the 2nd Gaelic medium primary school class in Scotland back in the 80's so am a native speaker and tbh l don't think its is too hard to learn. It also depends on the level you want to the learn the language at. Nowadays with this new wave of Gaelic with it being on the radio and having its own television channel there is a multitude of new words being added to update the language to the extent that even the old boys who know the language inside out have difficulty understanding! Just to add as with any language as Bogger obviously has learn the rude and dirty words first!:laugh:
