Hob&Jill 258
Hi. I have just started feeding raw food to my dogs, at the moment its been mainly chicken legs (maybe 70% of the time) Is this alright? Just starting to worry as surley they will need other meats to balance things out abit? I have been using standard chicken legs from supermarket only about £1.99 for 5 so its not bad, How many should I be looking to feed to a big male Patterdale? and a Beddyx pup I have been feeding the Pat 2 legs and the pup 1, I have been doing it purley of what looks right to me (apart from some help from Ditch ) so dont be having a go its wrong..... It would also be helpful if you could let me know whats the levels of proteins needed for a dog? and whats in certain meats? Would very much appreciate some advice, cheers, H&J :thumbs-up: And by the way the other 30% of meats are Rabbit, Pheasent and Lamb.
martin 332
Do you feed any minced/liquidized veg at all, probably should 3 times a week. Also beef/lamb bones 3-4 times a week.I think that you should be able to see for yourself how much to feed your dogs as the time goes by.As they get older then they will need more beef(and not minced). As pups, chicken is good for them minced(bones and all)you can buy a 5.5lb chicken(economy)in Sainsbury's for just over £3.00 so it still is very cheap mixed with veg. I am no expert,as I have only just started feeding raw to my JRT pup, but, she loves it and is thriving on it. Here she is at 10wks.....................
Simoman 110
Mine have been on raw for years, I give about 60% chicken wings and the rest is made up from minced beef/lamb/tripe/veg. You are paying far too much, have a look at landywoods petfoods. I have used them for a few years and they are very reasonable...Martin, you are paying £3 for 5.5lb of chicken, landywoods charge 38p per lb. Ossie 11
switching all my animals to raw food at the moment, only one i'm having problems with is my 6 year old ferret, who just won't touch meat. i guess she's been on dry for most of her life, she just doesn't know what to do with a bit of rabbit! i mainly feed roadkill, plenty of muntys & pheasants round here, so it's a pretty steady supply. quick drive round the roadkill hotspots late on a saturday (after the pubs chuck out) gives me enough to last a week. the dog merrily crunches on the bones, and the cat purrs twice as loud when she sees me filling up her bowl with raw! planning to get a terrier pup soon(ish), and i decided that i will feed it on raw, so i figured i might as well feed everything the same. Guest Ditch_Shitter
F*cking good for you, Ossie! Always makes me happy to see another convert back to the Old Ways! (By that, I suppose I really mean about twenty, twenty five year old ways? And, prior to that; Right back to when man first made a friendly grunt at a canine and beyond! Think about that ) God. I could go on. About when pig meat tasted like 'Pork'. When bread went rock hard, instead of turning green and furry. When milk was delivered to ye door, in a glass bottle, hours since leaving the cow. Butchers cut up whole, or damn near carcasses and sold ye bits. The saying, 'Clean as a Dogs tooth' had some bearing on actuallity. Kiddies played safely in the streets, watched over by local Dogs. And those same Dogs lived long and healthy lives, before dying of old age just the same as nature made them. No bits ripped off or out, just for the sake of it. Oh; And their shit caused kiddies amusement and wonder by its yellow colour, soon to dry to white powderyness which disintergrated on kicking. Sparrows chirruping from every guttering ..... God. Much more of this and I'm off to the Cabinet! What the hell's the world come to when one more person treating their animals properly is such cause for celebration?! Hob&Jill 258
One thing I have noticed, in only a couple of weeks is that my old dog Max (around 12-13) is much more healthy, not as cranky and stiff when he gets up and can easyly jump up onto my bed (soft I know ) Before he used to have trouble, I would have to give the lad a nudge up, He is fit as a Butchers dog now (well almost ) Sounds good all that Ditch, Im abit young to remember any though Edited March 15, 2007 by Hob&Jill
