Another footpath explored . . .

Recommended Posts

Took the dog for a walk after work today, took one of the jills and a half dozen nets a long as usual.

Decided to explore some new footpaths, the dog had a good hunt about, and got some good marks, but most were either too big and not well placed to do, or had been part occupied by the b*****d stripy rats.

Did drop her down two small sets though and took one from each. Was a pleasant stroll.

Can't wait to get back at it properly, starting this Sunday, with johnnyboy68 and young tom (the apprentice) coming up for a day out.

Cheers matey, could have had a few more, but the sets were either too big and a bit visible, for one man, one jill and one dog to do quick, or would have ended up with the jill meeting her larger, smellier cousins and i'm not sure it'd have gone in her favor.

Hope you do well next week! Sunday should be good for us, no matter what the bag is, it's just nice to be back out with good company, all the dogs together, and have a full day at it, will probably be too much cover and not enough bunnies but such is life!

Will be having a couple more short walks at least before then though.

Cheers guys! I just want the snow now. . . . . .nothing better than walking out, first light, snow on the ground, trees all rimmed with frost and ice, all the cover dead and all the bunnies tucked up warm and safe (thats what they think) at home.

To be honest mate, the snow doesn't really bother me, got the quad, and if not i can always just walk out, and get some done! Worst thing about it last year was the nets freezing solid and not pursing, my hands feeling like they were going to fall off, not being able to get pegs in the ground etc, but it beats the heat any day!

O yer also had a funny one today i forgot to mention, dog marked a set in some pines, but did not mark a hole, marked a spot that had been scrapped out half a foot, was keen as feck, had to drag him off before he started digging. I netted up assuming the rabbit was just below the surface and he could smell it through the soil, entered the ferret, down a hole a foot away but she was not that interested. . . . . . so i tried couple more holes and the same. So i went to the scraping, dug it out a bit with my hand and found a bit of a hole, dropped the jill there and she shot down, came out couple of mins later covered in blood, but mainly all over her legs and chest, and no fur, and there was no bumping, and nothing showed at a hole?????

Best i could guess was a nest of baby rats or mice in a separate tunnel system running alongside the rabbit warren??? What you think?

P.S just noticed my jill looks like an evil wee git in that photo!
