This new kind of fashion has got me laughing my head off..anyway what kind of wood do you youngster's use to get your dog's off..if pit fighting was still allowed i would go for a good hickory tapered

This was a good thread, l'm all for less of the name calling and more of a constructive debate.

I quite fancy this new way of hunting. No more training your dog basic commands from an early age while taking the time to develop the working master/dog relationship up to the point where the dog wil

would you rather have one and not need it, or not have one and potentially need it?

i've never needed to use one with a lurcher, but if a serious fight breaks out (between powerful, committed dogs) you'd wish you had one to hand.

I guess you mean those unruly untrained pot lickers you meet when your out for a nice peacefull walk with your dog.by the time they got thier break stick out thier pocket im sure i would have managed to boot thier f*****g mut of my dog.or break its back leg if it didnt wanna let go.im f*****g sure if my dog is going to the vets after being attacked through no fault of its own,id be making sure they were next in line at the vets

if you need a stick then the dog is thick...or in most cases badly trained...i have ran two bull x's of my own over the past 10yr's ..i have also used and been out with several other strong dog's over the year's and not once has a stick ever been needed..if i ever did need to use a stick i would be very disappointed with myself and give up running dogs.

millet there not bull xs you'r running there culls. get your self a proper bull cross and then you will see what the guy's are on about

So in your opinion a dog well drilled in the 'leave it' command is a cull? :hmm:

what about between your own dogs?

ive got a very strong little patterdale x that got into a scrap with my own lurcher when it was about 10 months old over a rabbit (he caught it and the lurcher tried to take it),if i hadnt of had a stick to hand it could of been very nasty.

as it was the lurcher was in a bad way but survived and made a full recovery.

imagine that it was a big deerhound x or something getting hold of a terrier or much smaller lurcher.

in all my years of keeping running dogs,i have only ever had one major kennel fight, and that was caused by strange dogs.all the other time they were all happy and content.maybe im just lucky.and if ever i had expierenced a fight like you just described.i wouldnt be f*****g about with a bit stick.but then again thats just me.you young lads seem to knw it all maybe we older lads should just give it up ,we obviously have been doing it wrong for years.
