A canny fox was a test for any dog agility and speed wise. They could make the fastest dog look stupid. I do agree it should be no contest weight wise but a lot of dog didn't like the sharp end.... Yes there's plenty of ways to test a dog but don't underestimate what a test a fox was back in the day.
