gas ram and bi-pod. will it work?

Recommended Posts

ive just bought a gas ram hw 90 k rifle. i know this will probably start everybody off with the negative side of doing this. But ive only seen negative comments about spring rifles and a bi-pod not the gas ram. could it work? The pro's and cons or just a bad idea?

any ideas comments or suggestions would be gratefully received.

i do fancy the idea but i have read that with a rim fire the bullet leaves the barrel before the kickback comes through the gun. being an air rifle and the pellet not traveling so fast, the recoil is taking place whilst still in the gun, hence throwing shots off target.

this is why im unsure of the best way forward and if this will work or not.

Hi Symnsm.

NO! The negatives are not without reason. Spring and gasram air rifles recoil with a fair amount of vibration shock. Gas-rams particularly have a hefty amount of snap recoil. Both will bounce off any solid rest, like a bipod and throw the shot wild.

.22 and 17HMR cartridge rifles have next to no felt recoil and the bullet is clear away before any recoil effect takes place. That's why bipods are fine on fulbore rifles.

From what I've heard of bipods on spring and gas-rams, it seems you can get a zero off a bipod per-se but, once you change your aim-direction the whole harmonics of the rifle change and you are back to square one with shots going wide.

Learn to hold and shoot the rifle correctly from your shoulder with a light controlling hold from your controlling hand, a gentle press of the trigger, good follow-through and a supportive rest of the forend on your leading hand's palm.
