fcuktheban 140
We all have seen what barbed wire can do to our dogs and I was wondering why someone would design something so stupid so I looked it up. This is the first patented design for barbed wire. http://www.kentohio....nts-barbed-wire It looks like the original inventor thought about other animals because he had spools with spikes on them. I'm wondering if this would have been safer for dogs then stationary barbs that don't move. What do you think? edited-title should had said "of" Edited August 25, 2011 by fcuktheban

Lab 10,979
Its not designed for the benefit of running dogs though is it. It designed to keep livestock from rubbing on fencing and its a very efficent material. I do agree though i hate the stuff and on some retrieves its cringeworthy watching the dogs leap over. I cant understand however why farmers put it round feilds when they are mainly arable?

bigbulls 26
never understand why the need for 3 strands for cows??? Because the top strand is meant to be set at what is considered stock height ( four foot) and if you dont put two strands between that and the top of the netting then it will not serve purpose, in as much as that cows will put their heads between the bottom strand and the netting to either rub or eat from the hedge / boundry. Same here. Brilliant invention. We don't do the 6" off the ground. We stay at 12" All gates get the BW treatment. If I had my way we'd string it every where. I'm never in a rush to clear up the old stuff either. Those that need to know, know where it is. Edited August 26, 2011 by Greek Phil
